I've started playing with the IR1 - sounds amazing

by the way, if you are running winXP with service pack 2, you need to install the following update before IR1 will work on your machine. Here are the instructions from Waves tech support:
Please take these steps:

1. Go to www.paceap.com, on the right side of the screen under "END USERS",
you will see a dropdown menu that reads "Download drivers".
2. Open the menu and choose "Windows Drivers", this will open a download dialog,
save the installer to your desktop.
3. Run the Interlok Extension installer.

Now please take these steps:

1. Right-Click on the 'My Computer' icon and choose Properties.
2. Go to 'Advanced' Tab.
3. In the 'Performance' box click on 'Settings', go to the 'Data Execution Prevention' Tab.
4. Choose "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only".
5. Hit Apply, hit OK.
6. Restart your computer.
7. Re-install your Waves bundle.

what copy protection does the Wave IR use? hopefully not PACE...

I find that SIR is useful for some things, the Classic Reverb (and all the Classic series tools...) and Sonitus Reverb are good for other things, and the Lexicon (with SONOR) is good for others... it really depends. One thing to note: in most cases you cannot use the IR reverbs while you're recording because of the CPU and latency (although I could be wrong about the Voxengo...) And sometimes it helps during recording to have some reverb on (in which case I'll use the lowest CPU reverb - that sounds good)...

overall, I have about 35-40 reverbs effects and probably use about 12-15 of them most of time because I'm learning what ones work for me in different situations... someday it would be nice to drop a few grand on a couple of high end reverbs to see if it really make that much difference in my home studio recordings or not...

I'd use an outboard reverb for tracking - even if it's a crappy one - don't want any latency at all when recording

I have SIR,but don't use it because of latency issues.
I also have the Lexicon,Cakewalk FX and Soundstage reverbs plus Dreamverb and Realverb from the UAD-1 card and find them all useable, but nothing really separates them too much to my ears.
I am interested in UAD-1's plate reverb.
If I were to spend $600 on one plug I seriously have to think about hardware or maybe a dsp card.

Does anybody know how the Powercores reverbs sound compared to the others?

I just got a powercore (after the price dropped). I've been playing with megaverb - it sounds nice, but I think maybe Waves IR1 is better. I also messed around with the demo VSS3 for powercore - this sounded very good - but I can't make a judgement yet as to how it compares with IR1.

I tried roomverb for the first time the other night and thought it looked pretty good.

SIR is a resource pig but a nice sounding pig.

The best in-the-box reverb I have heard is the UAD-1 Plate 140.

The rest are all varying colors of the same type of sound.
