Poll : How's your string set...

I used to play .008's, but I switched to .010's,...

and I used to use GHS Guitar Boomers, but I switched to D'Addario XL's.

I'm thinking of going to 11's or 12's on my Squier Bullet, because I'm still getting a lot of low E string flop when I hit it real hard,... more so on my Squier Bullet than on my Ibanez Blazer or any of my other guit's, which all have .010's and play okay.

D'Addario Medium gauge on my acoustic. I must try light gauge on the acoustic for a change. It won't make me a better player but I'll spill a lot less blood

Normal tension Adamas for classical
16's on the Dobro
13's on the Weissenborn
Banjos, I don't know, I never change them either

I pretty much stick with the D'addario XL110's (.010-.046) for my Strat.

For my 335 type guitar I prefer 11's with a wound G. Stay In Tune have a sert with both a wound G and a plain G.

I've read many places that SRV used 13's on his strat. I've also read many places that the Reverend Billy Gibbons uses 8's!

10's often sound fuller and break less. I'm almost inclined to set up at least one axe with 10's. However, then I get thrown off when switching back to 9's.

i used to use strictly heavy sets (i think they're medium at stores-most don't carry heavies-i'm thinking .13-.56, maybe .13-.52 on electric)-i even ran .59's on my heavy e on acoustic for awhile. now i use 56-42-32-25-16-11 (buying individual sizes in bulk) on acoustic (this setup leads to more stability for alternate tunings, and a good thump on the bass end, while leaving the higher strings a bit more bendable), and will probably spec out something different on electric (thinking of ditching my explorer for something newer, cheaper, and lighter)

I don't know about Billy, but some guys I know who were well acquainted with Stevie said he actually played 14's!

They told me a story one time when Stevie was playing in Hawaii... he tore up his fingers really badly, and had to put some sort of super glue on them to get through the gig. Played for nearly three hours... amazing.

14's would explain that meaty tone...

Super glue is supposed to be a good remedy for a split nail (that's when the skin under the nail pulls away from the nail and stings like an SOB) That's probably all it was.

According to Dan Erlewine in the "Guitar Player Repair Guide" 2rd edition, Stevie used 13, 15, 19 (plain), 28, 38, 58 GHS Nickle Rockers tuned to eflat.

Dude, if she's any serious player, as having 12's would indicate,...

she probably keeps her nails short.

[IMO] You can't play with long decorative nails, and even modestly long nails will tear up your fretboard,... [probably more noticeable wear on an all maple neck than on a rosewood fretboard]. Strumming/picking hand okay to have appreciably longer nails than fretting hand, [IMO].
