Fancy Rock N' Roll
Yo guys & gals...
How is your favorite string set by diameter ? Mine :

Electric :
E - 010
B - 0115
G - 016
D - 026
A - 036
E - 046
(Downed half tune)

Acoustic :
E - 009
B - 011
G - 015
D - 022
A - 032
E - 042

I play the most electric on rock rhytm & lead riffs. The rhytm I played very influenced by Mark Knopfler style, and the lead influenced by Slash and/or Marty Friedman. For the acoustic I play strumming rhytm style. How's yours ?

:) This poll gets posted once every few months it seems....what the heck, it's fun.

I use 11's on electric and 13's (usually) on acoustic. Standard tunings when I actually tune to a reference.

Slackmaster 2000

i normally use boomers 55...but now i have 45's..not sure which i like more yet...the 45's are easier to play, but they dont have the same kind of sound as the 55's. next time i buy strings i think im going to try some flatwounds

freak

Nothing special. 010 on elec. guitar, 045 on bass.
I'm not very picky anyway and I have no idea what for instance the gauge of the low B on my bass is.

.10s on Electric, don't break as bad as 9s and better sound =). Oh yea i'm original!

09-42.....
I buy whatever's on special.
God I'm such a cheap bastard.

009 Hybrids/Custom

009 on top three, 010 on bottom three

The lighter gauge is nice for when I'm out of practice and my finger strength is down. I keep it light so I don't have to re-set up my axe whenever I change gauges.

009's? what a bunch of pussies... :D
12's on the acoustic, 10's on the electric.

As far as I see, you guys use 010' on acoustic rather than 009'. Is it really better or what ? (:D I can't hear the difference due to my cheap acoustic guitar :D) and all I got is giving more pain on my fingers. However, I'll give 010' a shoot latter...

Depending on how your guitar is set-up, you'll probably notice a positive difference with 11's. But if you're used to 9's, it will be like haywire or barbed wire until you get used to them.

I keep the packaging for strings after I change them, just so I don't forget what to buy..

I use 09's, just because my guitars are set up that way.. haven't been convinced of a difference in string weight.. so why bother?

:D I told you it was my guitar which nothing but crap. Put 011' and the neck will do the Japanese bend... Think I need better acoustic guitar right now... :D

I wouldn't use anything lighter than 11s. And I can still bend up a major third (4 frets) on a good night.

hey im using 10's now (daddario xls) do any of u know what kind of low e string i could use to balance out a dropped tuning.... i play in drop d a lot and hate how it feels flimsy compared to the other strings.... has anyone done this before?

11s (or 12s) with a wound G on a strat.
10s for distorted floyd rose + humbucker stunt guitar stuff.
11s on accoutic, I don't like accoustic strings too heavy.

Try a light top heavy bottom set, they are pretty common for 10s I think, harder to find for 11s (at least here in Ottawa). I forgot about them in my post above. Having the fat ass really honks. They may not work well with a heavy metal style of guitar.
As far as the gauge goes, on the low E I think you'd be looking for a 49. Having the skinny A next to the bigger E would proably suck for anything else other than drop tuning tho.

yeah ive tried those... ummmm ghs tnt boomers... and i hate them.... all im looking for an alternative low e string.... and your right it would be bad for anything else except drop.... another reason that i want this but didn't state before is because im doing this set up on a floyd rose bridge, and the thicker e string would better suit the bridge as opposed to akwardly adjusting the spring tension.
