pretty bold snare sound there. Maybe some corn flower for thickening.

there are some passages with the clean lead gtr that just melt ya...just great..a little riff here and there. (ie.. the octave thingie at 1:05-1:07) If the entire track was like these gems, it'd be strickly insane. I like the delay/reverb/sound too on the guitar. The fuzz gtr was a good idea, but slightly missed the mark with the sound. You however, have really captured a kinda ambience that I really like....ahhhhh--reverb!!!!!

the underlying gtr parts are on the $$ to me. Nice pads, keys..etc. They work to add, definately and fill out...not as an instrument.

Since your taking liberties with this song...and for the good, imo...I'd let loose with the drum programming too...some rolls, percussion....whatever. Might as well update and improve on that too.

at 1:23...the measure just before the fuzz assult, (on beat 2 of the measure), the snare hit comes out of the left side...like the panning got screwed, just on that ONE hit. (same at 2:16..but this hit sounds in stereo!)

something squirelly with the fade out...after the song ends, I hear what sounds like the tail end of a previous mix, but recorded over. This would be fixed by chopping the last two seconds of the song, which are just silence anyway..and contain this little smidgen of a sound.

There are some just absolutely beautiful sections in this song. If you beat yourself to death for 10 more years with this mix.....Seriously, one of the nicer renditions I've heard.

while rereading my post, listening again...and trying to figure out how to spell "squirelly" ...it dawned on me. What really sounded good, was when the lead guitar played a chord, by the bridge sometimes...but had the fabulous sound, but played a rhythm part, vs the lead. Nice chordal lead passages(0:32, 1:50+... for example), is what I'm trying to say...but can't type into words...

hey mix .. I appreciate your time analyzing the mix.

Your mixing skills are outstanding compared to mine, Ive got alot of learning to do.

Im pretty new at the mixing scene... it takes alot of practice and patience.

Im really having a problem with the mixing because im trying to mix quiet and that leads to using the headphones and I can only hear out of one ear, so Im constantly switching the cans around.

Im going back to the mix to fix the problems you suggested, I agree 100% with what you said.

Also, when im mixing from cakewalk im monitoring from the (ext)mixing board and when Im done exporting and converting the mix to mp3 the channels and levels sound different for some reason... I have to go through the signal to see where im going wrong.... I guess this will just take practice.

Thanks again!

Muzak for the next age in your shopping pleasure.I really enjoyed Everybreath...I really like the mix.Get this to the stores,NOW!!!
My Dad would love it!

JMarcomb,

I was reluctant to post any comment after such a thorough beefing by mixmkr but, I really dug the git work and how you maintained the original emotion of the song. Nice chops!

I must say that the snare was too much. It stuck out right away and kept harrassing my attention till the end. Luckily, the git playing and overall feel kept me in the game.

An intelligent rendition and ,minus that cursed snare, a true pleasure to listen to.

Theron.

Kick is buried in the mud, and needs some high frequencies to be noticed. The snare is too loud. The drum playing seems weird at places. I thought I heard a snare beat panned left at one point. I can't hear any hi-hats or cymbals, so the drum playing sounds weird without them.

The clean guitar sounds are good, but the solo guitar is incredibly thin. If you're using a computer multitrack program, I'd recommend checking out Revalver DirectX plug-in. It can make your guitar A LOT better when you record direct.

I agree with Cranky's drum comments but I'm pretty sure the original was similar.. I also agree with mixmkr's comments about the fuzzy solo..I dont like the distorted solo sound at all... It doesnt sit well IMOP.. The cleaner solos are a lot better for me.. Overall this version is o.k.

I really like the other tune "Blue Moon." So much, that I downloaded it and started doing a little singing thing with it. IT's just for my pleasure so I hope you dont mind.. I am not going to post it or put it on my Nowhere page or anything like that.... It was just something that I was inspired to do when I heard the song.. It is a nice one as I told you in the other thread..

you know..this may be kinda cliche...but maybe adding some backwards reverb, swelling into that first snare hit might ease the first "WHACK", that starts the song off. ..and still back down on the volume of the bombastic snare too.

It sounds like you changed some leads, etc. Some nice, some very nice.

Oh MY!!!...the fuzz is gone!!....nice octaves in its place. Now there are a sh!tload of octaves happening!!

I felt that the original gtr bed was ok..but is seemed to get changed too...did it?

You're starting to whip this into shape. I like a lot of the stuff happening. ...and I've always liked the song too.

mix its hard to deal with that snare because its in the same track with the bass drum. I tried eq'n it twisting it and spanking it and It still sounds a little ugly....

The next song i do Im gonna have to do what you do... separate each drum.. that seems like a lot of work but the results sound rewarding.

I was listening to steward copelands snare and it sounds compressed and tight... its hard to match without a great snare sample.

Im glad you like the changes... YES... the fuz is gone ;) sounds much more plesant

I was thinking of ya when I added the 5ths

;)

Great take on the song and very nice guitar work......... BUT....

...that snare is just too out there.... pretty much washes over everything else........

Didn't hear much bass or kick either... but that snare could be masking everything too!

Bruce

Blue bear would it help if I brought down the drum track a db or two lower? Or just try eq'n it again? I did bring the bass guitar a smidge too low .. Ooops.

Interesting...I just downloaded it and I'm hearing too much bass. From what I'm hearing, I'd set a Hi-Pass at 50-70Hz.

The snare is a bit too much. If it's sampled, maybe consider another snare.

Just took a listen to "Blue Moon" and the levels seemed a lot better. I like it a lot...

Your tunes remind me of Craig Chaquico...

Wow Sonixx... your the third person this week to tell me I sound like Craig Chaquico...

Im gonna have to give him a listen... should be interesting.

Im working on one final mix of the police song :)
I went through all the snare sounds I have and I cant find a pretty snare. Most of them on my keyboard are technoish.
Im gonna try a high frequency pass like you said and see where that puts me.

Welp.. back to work.

and thanks guys!

It's possible - I was monitoring rather on the low-side (and not thru the KRKs!)

JMarcomb,
I realy appriciated the guitar chopps. Very solid. And you defenatly have good ear for guitar sounds and mix.

Also great use of reverb. Enjoyed it.

Sounds like you need new drum sound module. ;)

cheers

WOW!!!!
I dont care what the other people on this thread say...Sounded like the original to me...Just missing vocals...Man...I would like to hear this with the vocals...But you're gonna need a good singer to pull this one off. Keep it up!!

You guys are too cool!
Thanks alot ... I went over every inch of the song to make sure I didnt miss a thing... thats great that it sounds like the original ...minus the drums.

Final mix is here to stay ...I think

:)

I added in mixs' great Idea for a reverse effect entry

darn. I went to Nowhere, but the normal play symbols did not come up for this mix. The ones for Blue Moon were there. Hey, I tried...

Im moving on to the next song :)

I hope to have it done tomorrow ... I have half of it done already.

But you know Im too much of a perfectionist
