Hi all.
I'd like to begin taking my musical ideas and half-built compositions and "make them real." I have access to an old Korg X5D synth, which has MIDI, and I'd like to know how to go about doing the following: (I don't need a step-by-step for these, just a "look into software x" or "go pick up book y" kind of push... though if you wanna be more specific, g'head!).
(a) play on the keyboard and have the computer/software record the midi, so I can
(b) assign other instruments to what I've played, so I can
(c) compose for more instruments, and have the whole "band" play back.
I'm assuming it's possible. One thing I don't know, but want to ask, is can I use a sampling/sequencing program and some sample CD's to use entirely different instrument than the keyboard has built into it? I'm hoping/thinking I can use the keyboard for input, mostly, and get a few sample CD's for the sounds/instruments I'd rather use. (I know that the keyboard is limited to what it has in ROM, and does not take "new" files.)
Is that possible, and what software would fall in that category?
Right now, price is not an issue (well, it *is* but) because I just want to learn and know what's out there, I'm more into researching right now than defining a strict budget. I'd like to find out where I need to turn, and just what's out there.
So... what's out there that can do this stuff?
Thanks for your help and input!
