POD vs Flextone amp

The Sansamp thread below made me think of a similar question to pose. I've got a Flextone 60W and I'm wondering if there's any need or real benefir to getting a j-station or a POD. Music is really just a hobby for me...

I wasn't clear, but that was my point. The direct out on the Flextone is line-level for recording and gives you 16 amps, compression, and a dozen or so effects.

What does the POD offer on top of that? (I'm real new to recording so I may be missing something here...)

Well, not a lot if you're happy with your sound. The POD has 32 amp models, cab simulations, and onboard effects. But, like I said, if you're happy with your sound, you could use the direct out AND mic your amp giving you a nice fat sound maybe panned 80% right and left.

From what it sounds like, you don't need a POD. But, you might want to check one out anyway just to be sure. Do you use the Floorboard? That's the only reason I went with a POD rather than the J-Station. I was really interested in the acoustic modelling the J-Station does but I need the Floorboard for wah.

Good ideas.

Bye the way, the Floorboard is pretty cool but unless you need more than two guitar setups in a session, the Framptone Amp Switcher is completely noiseless. I'm going to try to direct out the line6 while mic'ing a 64 Bassman...

Thanks.

There you go. Should sound nice.

BTW, you're not channel switching during recording are you? A better thing to do would be to already be on the desired channel and use another track (overdub).

The pedal was one of the reasons I went with the j-station over the pod. They require you buy their propriatary unit at $225 or so,whereas the j-station will switch patches or top -level effects parameters real time with any standard midi pedal board.
I read the documentation on the j-station and it says wah-wah can be controlled by any midi CC pedal.I have that stuff already so it made sense for me to go with the j-station.

Well, different strokes I guess. I love the Line 6 sounds. And that wah on the Floorboard is so nice.
