Just wondering if anyone has runs dist. pedals before a POD. Does it sound ok? Do the amp models like the jcm800 clean up enough when you turn the gain to make them useable with dist. pedals?

I was thinking that an EQ pedal mite be useful inline before the unit.

I have a J-Station and i could not imagine what effect pedal id need to go with it...it does everything any pedal can do and more....it would just add noise.....

I want to run a big muff in front of it, I doubt the POD or J-station could get the same sound, I guess I'll try it out.

I'm looking for a smashing pumpkins kinda sound and I know Billy used a big muff and jcm800 but 'cause the amp models are called high-gain or whatever on the POD/J I don't know if they would clean up enough with gain turned down to use my big muff in front.

I've got a POD pro. I often put a boss sd-1 or ibanez tubescreamer in front of it for some boost. I'm not into distortion as such, I use it as I said to boost the signal and at the same time include the characteristics of the pedal.

I do have a big muff but I can't recall using it infront of th pod. I probably have but I don't know what it sounds like.

I almost never use the distortion on the Pod anymore, expect for that Soldano model, that's a great lead sound. I predominantly run distortion pedals throught the POD using either the Marshall JTM-45 model or the Matchless model. Those modesl for whatever reason seem to give the best results. I generally turn the gain up to between 10-12 o'clock, so from pretty clean to just a little distorted. Then I run my distortion pedals in front of it, like I would with a real amp. I have used a Big Muff, Rat, Tubescreamer, Chandler Tube Driver, Blue Tube, Tech21 XXL, Marshall Guv'nor, assorted Boss pedals... anything I could get my hands on. For the most part, it works great, just like a real amp would. Go for it!
