Pod as pre-amp

Does any one out there use their pod or j-station for that matter as a pre-amp when micing acoustic guitars or other acoustic instruments ? I would like to be able to avoid purchasing a stand alone mic pre-amp , if this works it would save me a little dough .

Yeah you *could* use it as a microphone preamp. Might not sound too good though...it's something you'd have to experiment with.

Note that it of course will not supply phantom power so using a condensor mic with it will not be an option.

Personally I wouldn't bother. You can get an ART Tube mic preamp for just over $100.

go out the POD into the FX return of the amp.
This should bypass the preamp of your guitar amp, removing the noise problem.

This was reported by James P (if memory serves) at the Flavio Forum @

The POD tkes a Hi-Z instrument level 1/4" plug so you would have to get a line converter for your mic cable. Besides, most guitar units have limited frequency response that a mic preamp would shame. Don't worry about the bucks, spend the $100 or so on a mic preamp--you'll be glad you did.

Peace, Jim
