n-Track will work with any DX plugin. Just do some searchin on the web. I believe that there are links to plugins at the n-Track website also. Some are free, some are shareware, and some are downright expensive.
There is a current link somewhere in this forum to Blueline plugins which in my opinion are excellent and all you'll need to get started.

Using n-Track to just make mp3's, however, doesn't make too much sense. n-Track comes with a copy of BladeEnc which is a horrible encoder (at 128kbps). Do a search for SCMPX and download it...it's a MUCH better encoder and will also convert mp3's into waves which can be handy. FYI: MP3 has little to do with computer based recording...it's just a medium to distribute finished products, especially over the internet (e.g. small file size).

If you don't plan on doing any multitrack recording on the computer then you might be better off with a good wave editor like Goldwave.

I just downloaded and registered a copy of n-track yesterday. I do all my recording on ADAT but I wanted something decent to make MP3s with and to start exploring computer based recording.
It looks pretty cool so far, but can someone fill me in on the plug-ins? Are there sources for free plug-ins, or do I have to buy them all from fasoft?

Thanks Slack,

What started this whole thing was, my employer decided to buy me a new PC for home. They aren't being generous, they'll get every penny back from late night and weekend support calls.
But, it's a pretty nice system. It's a Dell 600Mhz, 256M Ram, 20+gIG hard drive, etc. So, I figured, what the hell, I'll try some computer based recording since it's going to be in the same room with the rest of my stuff. I've tried it before with my laptop, but didn't like the results, so I never really pursued it any further. I'm hoping this will work better.
Maybe now I'll actually post an MP3 or 2... :)

Loudnaybor,

There are a billion wav to mp3 convertors out there. Most of them free.

If what your looking for is that check out

http://www.mp4music.com/software/

many many more available..

I use audioactive production studio, but found most of the free ones are as good or better.

I have been using N-Track for some while now and I love it! If you don't have alot of stuff in your start-up tray you should be able to squeeze in apx 24 tracks with a 600mhz processor (I've reached that number before with a 466mhz).

As for plugins, there are several freeware and shareware plugs out there that work with N-Track. http://www.db-audioware.com has a very useful set of mastering compressors that are unbelievably CHEAP! Also try http:/www.sonicspot.com for more plugs.

Thanks for the replies!
I've started messin' round with it a little and so far it looks okay.
One more question:
I haven't put down more than 4 tracks yet, so maybe you guys can save me some benchmarking.
Does this run better on Win9x or NT?

It runs 10000000% better on NT. No ifs ands or buts about it.
