plug ins - in search of great reverb

Can anyone recommend a great sounding reverb (that doesn't sound cheap) for Sonar 6 on a PC? I don't care how much it costs. I'm so sick of crappy reverbs. Thanks in advance!
 
Best bet is to use the included convolution reverb and grab some impulses for it from noisevault.com

( I THINK they included the voxengo convolution reverb in sonar 6...could be wrong...if not just grab SIR or ReaVerb theyll do the same thing)
 
thanks! i appreciate the responses. 2 people now have recommended the UAD Plate 140 on 2 different forums. i'm going to check that out.
 
only problem with the UAD plate is that you can't snag just the reverb plug - you have to get the PCI card and plugin bundle and the whole deal

for standalone plugs, altiverb is as good as it gets...i'm also a fan of the wavearts masterverb. i've also messed around a little with the IK multimedia CSR(classic studio reverb) stuff, and they seem pretty good also.
 
I love the TC Powercore verbs, Classic Verb and Mega Verb, but same as UAD, these run on hardware. I run a Powercore PCI, but there is also a firewire unit. You get other great plugins too, not just reverb, and there's a bunch of third party stuff like the Sony Oxford Plugins.....really top notch stuff. The good thing about DSP based plugins is that they don't load down your processor, and the software engineers get to write better code with less compromises for CPU load.
 
The UAD-1 drivers are HORRIBLE, thats something to consider if you want to make good use of multi-cpu's. DAW makers have been trying to deal with this since the UAD-1 came out, and Justin Frankel told them exactly what they needed to do (again) the other day at the NAMM show, but I wouldn't hold my breath

If you are using cubase or nuendo, or only have a single CPU I wouldn't worry about it too much, but otherwise...
 
i used to have 2 cpu's but one either died or something happened to it after i installed a 2nd hard drive. so i only have one cpu, sadly. but i really don't want to go with a pci card situation.

has anyone tried Breverb? What about this:

UAD-1 works fine with Steinberg software, as you noted, so why would it be a software issue? Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if UA gave short shrift to Reaper, since they might calculate that users of shareware don't want to shell out $2K for plugs (no, a UAD-1 doesn't cost that much, but in time, they will get you! :eek:). They could be wrong, but at the same time piracy is so bad for other plugs I could understand the attitude.

here are impulses from every reverb device you can think of (which will allow you to try them, even some plugins, before committing). Some people dont like convo as much because there isnt total control as in some reverb plugs but its something you should definitely give a try to.

OK, what about Sony, Samplitude, and Cakewalk? They bent over backwards to TRY make the UAD-1 work with their stuff. I've owned a UAD-1 since long before reaper was even a thought, these troubles have existed in any non-steinberg app since the card was born. Check the UAD-1 forums at chrismilne

This IS a UA issue, its an issue they've known about for years. There is a question on whether that particular video card can actually implement the fix, but so far they haven't even bothered to try (at least publically). I mentioned Justin Specifically because he offered to fix their drivers for them, and end this mess.

The reason it works well in steinberg apps (and the likely reason for steinberg apps' poor multi-cpu performance) is that they seem to implement a synchonous processing call scheme, which is what the UAD-1 does as well. Other apps can and do make much more efficient use of multiple CPU's by calling processes both at the time the plugin calls as in the steinberg apps, AND ahead of time, when the CPU has some spare cycles.

FWIW reaper can be set to the same poor multicpu performance as cubase and nuendo and with that option on it works as well with the UAD-1 card

The orgininal post specifically mentions using SONAR, so the UAD-1 is not a very good idea in that case
 
I like Waves RVerb. Doesn't sound crappy at all. Makes everything sound good.

GlaceVerb is free and also sounds good but I don't think it would compare to the UAD (at all). It's not very realistic but it does sound good.

I just did, and I have to say, given Justin's public statement about the situation, is he really surprised that UA won't respond? NDAs be damned, I wouldn't let him with 100 miles of the driver code.

Anyway, I suspect UA's market is mainly PT, and secondarily Steinberg, it's probably true that other DAWs don't concern them as much.
 
Its not like they didn't have five years of offers before to fix their stuff. This is a company who stated "an acceptable workaround to the CPU munch problem is to..."

get this :)

"... disable then re-enable the UAD-1 plugins..."

"every time you start playback"

Now, there is little I could think of that the company could possibly do worse after a statement like that. Let Justin, or any of the others who have offered for years, fix the damn things
 
yeah, SIR would want to take *.wav's

Most of the noisevault impulses are in that format (you download the *.rar then extract it)
