OK...One more time...

I downloaded a freeware "Ritchie's Soundtoolz" compressor and Noise Gate and I can't get it to work. Is this just my incompetence, or is just not compatible with cakewalk?? What types of Plug-ins are compatible with Cakewalk?

Your help is greatly appreciated

I haven't found too many that are not compatible with Cakewalk, most DX plugs at least work to some degree. I of course have not tried every plug out there. Where did you get this one from? Maybe I could try it on my rig and let you know. Would that help you out?

Let me know....

Gotem. Try it in the morn.. let you know as soon as I have results. Hang on......

You can let go now...hehe

OK. The noise gate works ok, but I could not get the compressor to install without getting a regsrv32 error so it did not even work in the system. Can't test it for ya.

Hope this helped.

Thanx again

I'll have to try out the gate. I didn't try that before because the compressor didn't work so I didn't figure the gate would work either. Let you know if I can get it working.

I guess it's just me...

I have no idea how to install these things, I've got it downloaded and unzipped, but how do you get it into Cakewalk? When it asks me what program I want to use to run it, I put Cakewalk (is this right?), but it says it cannot read the file. I'm new at this and have no clue what I'm supposed to do. And when I do finally get it installed how do I access it, does it show up in with the rest of the Cakewalk effects?

Your help is greatly appreciated

In a nutshell

You need to run regsvr32 against it. Here it is step by step.

1) Put the .ax file in a directory (ex. C:\Plugs)
2) Click Start|Run and type "regsvr32 C:\Plugs\noise.ax"
3) Click OK

Substitute the plug name for the plug name. This will add it to the directx listings for you.

Good luck.

Still nothing...

It's saying that windows cannot find my file, that I may have typed the name incorrectly. I do a search and find the file (so the path name is correct) then type the regsvr32 in frot of it, put the " " and get that stupid message...grrrrrrrr...

Ooopppsss!

My appologies. Do not put the quotes in. I showed them just to define the command line. Try it again. If you need to use the full path to the regsvr32 file it should be as follows. If not then do a search for it too.

C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\REGSVR32.EXE

Have patience and we'll get it worked out.

Here We Go Again.....

There are 4 regsvr32.exe that come up when searching, there isn't one under Command, there's one under System which is the one I tried. I have Windows ME should it still work? I'm getting all kinds of weird errors - LoadLibrary("C:\Program") failed. I was wondering if the regsvr32 command works with Windows ME.

It's Not Windows ME,

I just tried it on my old computer which has Win 98, and it still doesn't work. What setup do you have? I guess you'll just have to start from step one, from downloading it from the page to putting it into Cakewalk in case I'm missing something (I have to be). I'm just not getting it.

My setup is using 98SE (98lite) and it has no trouble running this little utility. It's a part of windows so it should be there. WHat I can do is post the file properties for you so you can see if they are different from what you have. Perhaps we could chat live and go deeper into the issue. Up for it?

Where are you in the world and what time zone are you in..... hehe that could sound funny.....

Oregon - Pacific Time Zone.

My sister is going to be getting on the computer now, so I'll be back on in about 2 hours so maybe we can chat then.

Plug ins

Save the headache and go with one of Waves packs. You can download a demo version for awhile, and if you are feeling cheap, when the time is up, go in your registry, delete the Waves related stuff, and re-download. These have GOT to be the best plug-ins around. Especially the renaissance stuff....
Waves stuff sounds great and have never crashed my system, although some others will.
