Easy question: how does a plop shield works?

How can that simple peice diminish the frequency that forms the 'p' sound? Or does it use another principle?

Nothing really important, but I really wonder..
 
I'm assuming you're talking about a pop screen.

All it does is stop the airflow, but not the sound. Hold your hand close to your mouth and say "people". You can feel the air hit your hand. When this happens to a mic, it makes the nasty plosive sound. Pop screen stops that.
 
It works by breaking up the air flow just enough to keep a solid blast from hitting the diaphragm.
