Mix #1...nice tone. Guitars are great, and mesh well with drums.

Mix #2...Same thing man...sounds great.

I think #1 is slightly louder, but sonicly, they both sound great. Probably doesn't help you much....but either one works for me.

ha... do they sound they same?
They are really close man....I wouldn't say one sounds any better than the other.

I agree with dog that they both sound good and are very similar. I'd choose #1, on my system the bass and drum sounds come across slighty more crisp... sounds as if that mix has slighty more space in it.

thank guys... this is the small detail type of feedback I'm looking for.

interesting SnakeDog... on my system mix 2 is more open/crisp/airy while mix 1 is somewhat more puffy/stuffy/closed

yeah that's interesting. If you're wondering, I was listening on a 6.1 surround sound system, so it's not monitors... sounds like the guitar in #2 is a bit thicker giving it that feel to my ears. Both mixes sound very good though

To my ears there's a little more bass definition in #2 as well as less compression. I'm cloth eared however.

I like #1 better. It sounds like you have an eq strapped across the mix buss? #1 has the low mids boosted, whereas #2 has the lows boosted - or atleast that's what I hear (but I'm deaf).

#1 has a lot more meat to the guitars. But both sound pretty damn good, except for that annoying snare ring on a few of the hits.

Just a tip mate. If you put the two samples end on in the one file a listeners can scan back & forward to compare & contrast. As it is the time lag & functions required to listen to one file & then another break the processes a bit.

appreciate the tip. :D

Both sound very similar. number 1 might be a tad louder.
I think I prefer number 2. Something about the guitars I (think I) prefer. Hard to tell since they sound so similar.

Both real meaty and in yer face sounding.

When are you gonna reveal what you did/are looking for?
This is the point at where Sonix says they were both the same take, as some mad experiment to see how much our ears can be fooled by what we are told...... or something. :)

oh, Okay...

On Mix 2 I added very slight saturation and adjusted the Buss compression. On mix 1 had the Buss Compressor hitting about 1db (avg) of reduction. Mix 2 I changed to about 2 db (avg) of reduction, higher ratio (1.5 vs 1.1) and higher threshold (to get 2db of reduction).

There doesn't seem to be much difference. I can hear the compression though when the kick and cymbals all hit together though. I prefer mix one though. I'm listening through headphones.

monkeymanx, thanks for the feedback, but I can't put much stock in your comments now that I've spilled the beans and you pin point that. before yes, now no.

I wanted that sort of comment before telling, that's why I didn't tell first.

If it means anything to you, I listened to both before reading through the comments. Like I said, the compression wasn't much but I could hear it mainly with the crashes and kick hitting. Either way, both sounded fine.
