Please rip my mix -Rock

This is my first try at recording/mixing.

Sorry bout the huge filesize(5.7meg), I need a better encoder-this one defaults to 192/44

Here is my setup:

Drums: Pacific CX maple/Sabian AA's
Kick: e609
Snare: sm57
Rack toms: e835
Floor toms: mxl900
OH: Oktava 012's

Guitar: Hamer California with Jeff Beck PU's split coils -> Traynor ycv40
Mic: sm57

Bass: Musicman ->Direct

Vox:Oktava 319

Using a q10/pentium setup into Sonar.

Please give a listen and offer any critique/advise you may have.

I think it is a cool song. I love the drums and guitars.
I don't hate the singing but I would pull it back a little. I think it over powers the mix. IMO that style needs to have the vocal more even with the guitars. It sounds like the guy is trying to get his voice out over the band but in the mix he doesn't have to because the level is up. I don't know if that makes sense, I often don't.
Nice job on the instruments.
How did you record the bass?
Never mind I see MM direct. I love those basses. That sound reminds me of my G&L L2000 direct.
 
Thanks for listening and for the replies. The vox were a scratch track sung while he was playin one of the guitar tracks.

The bass was the hardest to get levels on. That MM is one hot bass!

The vocals didn't bother me at all. You could lower it a bit, though. And depending on what sound you like, try doubling the vocals and pitching the second one down a bit. I have the 319 and I almost always double the vocal track, EQ them in a reverse pattern while emphasizing certain freq's. Sometimes I'll chorus one of the tracks too but have the level on the wet track much lower.

I really, really like the kick sound. Sounds very tight.

The bass sounds good, but I would raise the level just a hair.

The guitars don't pop, but they may not be supposed to.
 
On the subjective side, yes, I don't particularly care for the singer...something about his voice is grating. It sounds really forced and cheesy. I'd rather hear him sing honestly instead of trying to be a 14 year old Eddie Vedder.
However, the music was played pretty smoothly. I hear some foo fighters influence.

On the technical side, everything sounds dull. It sounds like the high mids were sucked out of the mix. The bass sounds pretty good, you got a good sound there. Drums, no real complaint there. The guitars could use some more work in the high mids...but be careful in the 6-8khz, its real easy to abuse.
Overall, the mix seems workable and you should be able to fashion it into something pretty good w/ work.
 
Thanks for listening. I only applied eq on the kick and snare. Took a lil out of the 400hz to loosen the mud. Since I'm the drummer, I didn't mess with any other track eq's yet.

Ok, I have to agree the bass sounds amazing. I am primarily a bass player, so I'm a little biased. BUT... the vocal. It needs to be double tracked and put into the mix a bit further back. Have the singer do it independent of playing his guitar, so that he's not trying to concentrate on doing 2 things at once and can give the vocal it's due attention. Vocals are the one thing that can't be off, even a little bit, because when you have them as prominent as you do, the bad spots really show. And they are showing here. Sounds too forced, like was mentioned. Redo them as I suggested, and it will be fine. And your drums sound really good too. Good job on them.
 
Nice rock track.

Technically, the whole mix needs more space and depth. Try abit more reverb but careful.

Snare needs slightly more crispness and air. Reverb on the snare and the rest of the drums would make them sound bigger and blend more into the song.

I agree with Scriabin, overall sounds abit dull. Doesn't have the sparkle.

Kick is really punchy, nice. Bass guitar is nice and tight and suits the song. Electric Guitars again abit dull, need abit more edge to them.

Vocal needs a double or retrack to give it guts. The song demands a strong vocal to give it balls. I thought the vocal sound suited the style of music.
