Hi

I recently borrowed a Roland WS2400CD hardisk recorder just for the fun of it. You can find the result of two days with fooling around here:

Its recorded in my rehearsalroom and u can see some pics here:

http://www.bandrommet.net/bilder/2/index.html

The drums are some cheep Tama Swingstar, the bass was a Morgan and the guitars were A Squier Strat through a cheep Fender guitaramp :)

The song is a cover of a danish band called Saybia, and its called 7 demons. I play all the instruments (please don't comment on the drumplaying *lol* I know it sux big time)

A bit on the recording:
I used a Sure beta 52 on the bassdrum, a sure SM57 on the snare top and a beta57 on the snarebottom. ALso there are Shure beta57's on the toms. For overheads i used two AKG C 535 EB's

On the guitars I used both a Di signal and a mic (sm57) on all the tracks. Theres no vocals on it...yet

So... (long post)... I'd love to hear som input. This mix was done on HEADPHONES on location...so..its pretty much just a rough mix. But, what do u think?

Hey man......pretty cool....
I like the tone of the guit at the beginning....nice and clean for an electric...the bass seems just a bit too loud/hot.....
at least at the beginning....
the snare sounds a bit sharp..
needs kick in a big way too......
the toms sounded pretty good...
hi hat level could come up a bit...
I dig the lead....very cool...

Indeed, the bass could benefit from being dropped a db or two. I really like the guitars - all of them. really crisp and bright sound, great!
the drum mix sounds good to me, although the snare might be a tad to high. It kinda takes away the attention from the guitars.

DO NOT add any vocals to this one!
I really like it instrumental - you got something sigur ros-ish going on there :)

sounds pretty good.. there's a good space left for vocals.. I would raise the bass drum.. the floating drum tempo is the biggest problem.. the sound of the drums are good.. guitar sound is cool.. maybe a little bright compared to the bass..

I personally think this sounds great, especially the guitar tones. I'm listening on headphones, don't want the neighbors bitching at me for listening on my monitors. Bring up the snare a bit.

Hi guy. Thanx for your input.

About the bass, I forgot to say that I also think that it is too loud. And the reason is that I did mix on headphones... and the headphones I used, are AKG K270, which are GREAT, but they do not have that much in the lower registry

As I did state, I am VERY awere of the druming problem. I'm no drummer at all :) After all, It was just for the fun of it, and to try out the Roland for a friend of mine. Maybe you're right about the guitars beeing to bright compared to the bass. On the other hand I like the guitarsound. Maybe I'll work a little on the bass.

I'll try and add a little more bassdrum and see how it sounds. personally I like it as it is. I guess the snare sounds a bit sharp b/c the drumsound is based around the overheads, which gives the drum the room-sound I'm after

Thanx for the input guys, I'll try and post a new version soon.

btw, I'd love more inputs too

:)

cheers
