Not bad man. I was ready to be real with you and honestly that isn't bad. You still may get some critics who'll get picky on the little stuff but none of it was bad and its better than most of the stuff I hear on here and other sites. The female bgv's do sound a little sibilant you may want to roll the high end off just a tad. Good job!

silibant...? i know it ..ohhh wait ...the "s" thing? lol a deeser can get rid of that if used properly right? or is it better to go in and do it by frequency?

I know i have seen a link somewhere in this board with frqs and what increasing them and decreasing them will do and what will affect...now if i only could find that...

any more??? i know theres stuff in it...i just want people to point it out so i could listen to it and really say " ok that's what they mean " and be able to catch them kinda things on other recording and try to fix em in this one too....

appreciate your honesty...come on picky critics!!!!

lol

yeah just find the frequency and cut it. it really wasn't overly sibilant and it just may be the mp3 encoding but there's a high frequency on the female bgv's that just doesn't sound too friendly. I think a simple rolloff would probably do it, just roll it off till it sounds right.

btw this is on the basements. my basement is 2 rooms...in one theres the furnace and the other the washing machines and dryer and is open to outside noise more than the furnace side.. on a audio interface firewire solo and a SP B1... the voices that is...

so considering that you still think is an alright listen with a few minor issues? i think im lucky, cuz Restless did all the mixing, i just recorded my vocals and the vocals of my oldest daughter and level them a lil and sent them to him...

yeah the sibilance is probably from that Studio Projects mic. I have a C3 and it tends to get a bit "hiss-ey"...

sounds good. not really my thing so its hard for me to be much of a critic. but I think the mix sounds nice.

no idea what the hell you're saying...

"no idea what the hell you're saying..."

Is it the spanish things or you can't hear what im saying.

Probably that its in spanish. Just an off the subject question, would this flow the same in english?

if i could find a way to translate the song without loosing the escene...which it's my experience in love with my wife, a single mother of 4. It's like letting other single mothers know how much this single man loves this women with 4 kids and kinda giving them hope that there could be somebody out there that would take em seriously and not just see the kids and head in just to get a piece of a$$.

The female vox is my oldest daughter...step daughter. I don't have any kids of my own...she is 16 and i have been in their lives since she was around 6-7 yrs old.

In the spirit of not taking up more space to tell you almost the same thing... can you guys check up on this other track i now have uploaded to my site? it's called "Amalo a El" I have gotten 1 guy tell me he listened to the whole song just because he liked the flow i was rapping in and the instrumental was tight, but that he really could not tell what the hell i was saying!

This prompts me to put it in here, to see if some good soul would give this a listen in a more appropiate ambient (more like monitors, since i still waiting to stack up enough money for a decent 300-400 pair, well, half decent! lol )

That's all i really focused in this one. I want to see if you guys think the vox has to come up a bit in order for you guys to distinguish words and stuff, even if you dont understand the languague!

thanks!!!

yeah, that's not bad! If you want me to be picky....
I think you could probably tone down the echo/reverb most of the time, and just bring it in to set apart a section or two. I like rap-type parts to typically be fairly dry. The vocals could probably be brought up a little in level too, but what I really would want is a fatter sound on them. I think this is probably a mic/pre issue, so there may not be much that can be done there.

Again, I have no freaking idea what you are saying, but it makes me want to grow a big ole booty and shake it :D

Running everything like this....studio projects b1--->m-audio firewire solo--->Cubase SX3 so most likely is the mic/pre in terms of the fatter sound...could i do anything about the fatter side of it...plugs...eq???? cuz i really understand what you are saying!

I don't know that there is much you can do. You could try messing around with EQ. I usually like fairly wide gentle Q settings when eqing vocals. You could try boosting with the eq to search for the thinnest sound you can find, then cut that back down a db or 2 (and turn the main volume back up a little to compare). Then find somewhere in the lower end (100-400) that sounds good when boosted. I have no idea as I don't have it downloadable to mess with, so I won't venture suggesting specific frequencies.
For compression, if all you have are stock plugs that came with your recording program, you could try Blockfish by Digital Fish Phones (free). It has a little more character than a lot of stock compression plugs.
Again, there are just some limitations of your setup that you may not be able to overcome; but it is worthwhile to try. ;)

Yeah!!! I might try that block fish...i think i downloaded it a while ago and never installed it...

I thought you really wanted to do thin eq on vocals....when im eqing for like parts or instruments on the instrumental to not "collide" with the same freq's as the vox i do really thin eqing on the instrument side....so you are saying that when messing with the vox...i want to go wide...like a couple hundreds wide.

Well, occassionally I'll do a thin cut if there is a resonance area, or a pop area, or an Ssssss area or something. But for overall sound shaping, wide Q's just typically sound more natural to me on vocals. But be careful how many db's you move; just a dab'll do it when using a wide Q. Oh, and different EQ's seem to define "Q" differently, but on the Cubase EQ it might be around 1 to 2. I can't tell you in hundreds of Hertz, because it would be different from octave to octave .

A tip on Blockfish: there is a little switch on the left side to open up the back panel where you have access to all kinds of fun things, like adjusting the air frequency, the low cut frequency, saturation, etc.

Have fun

ummmm....play time...thanks Reggie...open your mouth cuz you deserve some chicklets!!! lol

I just made a thread in the MP3 section and wanted the insight of you guys over here...since most of the stuff (critics) im looking for concerns the mix.

Any opinion will be appreciated!

Thanks

I've tried to access this song you've got on soundclick and when the pop-up pops up it just says "no such song". Have you taken it down?

yeah i did take it down...about the same time people didn't see this thread anymore and then i was stupid enough to bump it up by posting another mp3 for you guys to listen...its a couple of replies up!
