Please listen to my Mix

The blend is pretty good IMO. Sounds big. I like the delay on the vocals during the pause.

I like the vocal performance, seems pretty spirited. The stereo field seems a little narrow though, like there's plenty of room for the instruments to spread out, and the bass performance seems a little stiff here and there, but it's a good song and over all decent mix.

There are some signs of promise in the vocals but needs work. The worst of it is with the "no more - no more - i can't take no more" The focus here is on the "o". Try no -o on the first 2 no's. Then I would split Whitney - Whit - ney. Very slight pause. It is more like you are talking rather than singing.

As mentioned bass is stiff.

You also do something around 1:40 that is muddled.

*Edit* The problem I heard when I originally listened was a problem my end.

Sounds good now :thumbs up:

Sounded decent. I liked the singer. I liked the bass and the guitar riff.

I'd back off the reverb on the guitars - rhythm and lead. They're much wetter than the vocal and makes them sound disjoint.

That syncopated kick thing the drummer is doing is really weird. Makes the whole rhythm section sound off.

Love the snare sound. I'd turn it up a little bit.

The lead player is very stiff. Everything else is workable.

Since you asked about the mix. The spread could be better on the guitars as previously mentioned. I like the harmonies to be louder and more like a chorus than side men. The guitar tones could be fatter, how you achieve that I can't say, knowing nothing about how you got here.

Thanks for all the reply's I am working on a remix of it.

Question when you guys say the Bass and the guitars are Stiff, do you mean performance or the sound of the track?

Thanks, again this is all really great feed back and just what I am looking for!

Thanks for all the feed back guys, its been very helpful in remixing the track. I don't know if I will re-track the performance issues because I would just rather start from scratch at that point. My goal is to make this mix sound the best it possibly can. The band is at the point where we can get some local radio air play and we are trying to decided if we should go to a recording studio and record a few tracks or continue working and recording tracks at my home studio. The really issue is can I get these tracks to sound good enough -mix wise not performance wise to play on the radio. I just don't know if I have developed those skills yet.

I am remixing this track to see how good I can get it to sound and my brother in law is going to master it. But I doubt this would be a track I would submit for radio airplay.

Thanks,
E

I think if you are looking towards radio play then I'd suggest getting in to a studio.

But this mix is really good! I second the motion of turning down the guitar reverb level. The bass is quite an intrusive part of the mix. There seems to be a bit of a build up in the mid range of the EQ.

I think the lead guitar playing is really good, however just for future reference.. vibrato is your friend.
