PLEASE I NEED HELP, JUST BOUGHT A MIC and i dont know if i made a good deal

hey, so i went to buy a shure sm57 mic today.... things didnt flow as good as i want em to do hehe the sm57 mic costs around 320 reais (i live in brazil) and i only had like 200 reais...... so ..... it was much more expansive than i though.... so..... i bought a Roland DR-20 Dynamic Mic IMP.330 Hyper Cardioid......... AAAAAH is it any good? i mean, it costs 150 reais, is it alike the sm57? can i record voice and instruments (drums, amps) with it? will it be good?
do i need a preamp to this mic? people said i wouldnt need one for sm57, and what the hell is a condenser??

im confused, HELP please..

Not familiar with the Roland, however, should you want to get an SM57
type microphone another fine choice is the Shure 545 Unidyne III.
Just scored one for $41.50 (US) off e-bay, so it should run about 1/2 to 2/3
of whatever you pay for a SM57 where you are.

The Roland doesn't need phantom power like a condenser would.

ok, so i have this roland dr-20 mic now.............
and i have this shure wh10 madonna style mic that ill use for recording the drums or whatever, i dont care, its still a mic.. and its a shure!

what do i need now?

a mixer? a recorder like tascam or what?

When I got my Roland 1680 the guy tried to sell me one of those DR??????somethin-of-anothers. He said it would "MAXIMIZE" my recording expirience. (there are MIC SIMULATORS on this thing that supossedly make the DR sound like a "5000" dollar mic) Now I have just dropped 2k and he was trying his hardest to sell me ANYTHING cheap. All because I haggled on the price and made him drop it a bit.

So I didn't buy that from him because the mic was only like 50 bux. I got a AudioTechnica ATM41a, at another store, where I asked for a SM58 and was "recomended" to get instead, even though they were the Exact same price. Now that Is service!!!! I wasn't barganing, he just knew what was up.

I don't know where or how that was supposed to fit in with your question but it seemed to when I started typing.

Look dude, in all likelihood your mic sucks.

Someone needed to break it to you.

So live with it . . . grow with it . . . and learn to make great recordings despite your limitations.

He is Right Marcos, your Mic does suck. A sm57 isnt that great either. But you do have to start somewhere and it looks like you have an intrest in recording. So get whatever you can get your hands on price wise. Your ears are most likely not even close to being developed enought to even hear the difference between your mic and a quality one. So just have fun and learn on the way.
 
Give this guy a break. Not everyone's been dwelling here day and night for 10 years.

Just to let you know, in case you didn't, when they recommend something at anykind of chain store it's usually because it has a better profit margin and the goon behind the counter gets a higher comission.
 
Also it's a good idea to work out whether the mic is a good deal before you buy it! :rolleyes:
