Im trying to use a very simple set up at home for my own music

in this order !

1 mic, one preamp, 1 soundcard.

Sontronics Orpheus large condenser

Tf pro mic pre (joe meek) style

Beringher uca 202 usb 16 bit

just trying to get simple clean sound, - Easy right !!!!

When i arm tracks for recording in sonar without the mic plugged in i get a signal registering on the meter dunno where its coming from maybe interference from pc ?

And after recording tracks the output is very quiet evn though the im pushing the sliders up to much (into the red) and the wave forms look quite healthy ????

all the pc sliders for volume ect are on max

sorry this thread is a bit newbie any help please

Andy .

You shouldn't have to push the faders, especially if the wave forms look healthy. I'd suggest that you turn up your speakers a bit. Otherwise, there might be a main fader or something(i don't know sonar) that is set quite low. What are you monitoring with? How is this setup connected?

The behringer uca202 seems like your weakest link in this setup, imo, unless you're using pc speakers, or headphones.

The signal might be interference, faulty connection, a problem with the gear, or just noisy gear. How big is this signal? I remember getting a signal in college on the control 24.

If you can't hear it in the recording, don't worry too much about it. If you can, you gotta fault find. Check each piece of gear to find where the problem lies: Remove the mic from the signal chain, then the pre, then the interface(if this is possible). Try using different cables etc too. When the signal disappears, you've found your fault, and you can then work to sort it.
