hey,

i'm trying to record my guitar through my computer but here's the problem.... i can record fine through my computer... however, when i play, i cannot hear myself through my speakers.

here is how my set up is:
i have my guitar connected to my amp.
the output from my amp is connected to the mic input on my computer. the line out from the computer is connected to my receiver (to the cd input).

so, like i said, i can record it fine and play it back fine. however, i cannot hear myself while recording. i've noticed that if i turn the receiver volume ALL the way up, i can FAINTLY hear it.... but, that doesn't seem right. all of my volume settings on my computer is un-muted and volume is up. has anyone ever come across this problem before? or may know what this could be?

Thanks

What kind of sound card do you have? It has to be full-duplex capable, meaning simultaneous recording and playback.

If you haven't done this already, check your Windows settings:

You have to tell Windows where your input is.
Accessories-Entertainment-Sound Recorder-Edit-Audio Properties-Sound Recording-Volume will give you the "Recording Control" menu to tell Windows what you want to do. I seem to remember picking "What U Hear" to set up recording--mess with the toggles there...

you don't have the "speaker" out connected to your computer do you? cause that wouldn't be good.
