hey,

i'm trying to record my guitar through my computer but here's the problem.... i can record fine through my computer... however, when i play, i cannot hear myself through my speakers.

here is how my set up is:
i have my guitar connected to my amp.
the output from my amp is connected to the mic input on my computer. the line out from the computer is connected to my receiver (to the cd input).

so, like i said, i can record it fine and play it back fine. however, i cannot hear myself while recording. i've noticed that if i turn the receiver volume ALL the way up, i can FAINTLY hear it.... but, that doesn't seem right. all of my volume settings on my computer is un-muted and volume is up. has anyone ever come across this problem before? or may know what this could be?

Thanks

What software are you using?

It sounds like you need to enable "input monitoring." This will allow you to hear as you record. However, you probably want to be careful about feedback from the speakers. Most people use headphones to listen as they record.

Also, although you didn't ask, I would recommend using the Line In on your sound card rather than the mic input. I suspect your amp is putting out a line level signal, which is what you need in order to use the Line In.

And a little warning about Input Monitoring: You need a low(!) latency soundcard to make it work properly.

What soundcard do you have?
