Hi there.

I have an Alesis SR-16 which I have hooked up to my pc via a midi cable.

The problem is I just can't get Cakewalk to receive any midi notes. It's nothing obvious like a broken midi cable or the drum machine/ Cakewalk configuration (I don't think).

Can anyone shed any light on the situation as I'm totally perplexed.

Thanks in anticipation,

Senor V.

eeeh - you've probably allready checked this up, but it's my only suggestion. Are you sending and recieving on the same channel ??

I have the Alesis set to midi channel OMNI.

In Cakewalk track properties:

- the source = MIDI OMNI

- port = <my synth>

- channel = none

This seems okay to me but if I've got the wrong end of the stick along the way, please let me know.

Cheers.

You need the channel to be OMNI or some other channel other than None.

Okay, I set the following track properties in Cakewalk:

- the source = channel 1

- port = <my synth>

- channel = channel 1

The SR16 is transmitting on channel 1 but there is still no midi input activity.

Odd stuff.

Are you using a Soundblaster with the gameport to MIDI cable? If so, switch the one you are using for OUT with IN.

The labelling on the cable is not very straightforward and it is easy to confuse the IN and OUT cables.

brzilian, I'm not using a Soundblaster.

I have the game port to MIDI cable hooked to the Alesis with it's IN and OUT plugs matched the the IN and OUT inputs of the Alesis.

I swapped them round out of curiosity but still nothing.
