Hi all

I'm new to Cubase and I've got a big problem: How on earth do I export my music when I can only record in midi tracks? I have an electric piano and all my synths installed on my soundcard. I can record fine, but I can't export as it tells me I have to transform my midi tracks into audio recordings. What on earth does that mean, and how on earth do I do it?

If it helps, I'm using Cubase SX, a Soundblaster Audigy card and an electric piano via midi cable link.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks.
p.s. my apologies for posting this in more than one forum, I wasn't sure where it was most relevant)

I don't have SX, but it is spelled out VERY clearly in the manual - both the written "Getting Started" and in the PDF manual also. Do a search in your manual for something along the lines of "midi to audio" or something like that.

Anyone with a page number from the SX manual that can be a bit more precise?

Chris

I have looked in the manual, that's what made me post here in the first place becuase I don't understand what it means. It gives a very vague (for a newbie) instruction to 'record your midi track as an audio one'. Its instructions don't make much sense to me, which is why I sought help here.

As for the other reply, yes I'm using midi. It's the only way I know.

Cheers.

Let us help you understand it. What part(s) don't you understand? It's easier to explain a couple of details than it is to re-write/re-explain a whole page of stuff that's already there.

I was never asking to have the manual re-printed. It's exactly because I didn't understand what the manual says that I came here.

Basically, the specifics of the situation are this: I have a midi set-up, i.e I have an electric piano connected to my PC (MPU-401 socket) and I have soundfonts installed on my soundcard's synth. I can play them successfully through cubase, but to export my music it tells me I need to switch my midi tracks to audio ones, by 'recording my midi tracks as audio tracks'.

This means little to me, and I can't find any explanation/help as to how to go about this. Someone has said I need an audio lead, not a midi one, to go from my piano to my soundcard's line-in socket.

I'm just trying to understand all the jargon and gets some actual end result.

Cheers.

I have CubaseVST32 so im not sure about SX.You have to record all your midi tracks onto a vacant audio track, then you mute your midi tracks and export your audio, maybe this will help you to begin to know what to do,you have to find how your card will loop your midi back in to be recorded on an audio track before exporting. On my soundcard i have say three midi tracks of keyboards, then i choose an empty audio track,i mute this audio track, then i press record and the midi plays and is recorded onto the audio track i have set up.You have to learn how your card will send out the midi and turn it around to come back into an audio channel, hope this gets you on the right path, good luck!

Dejavu anyone?

1) plug cables from your audio output of your synth into your soundcard.

2) keep your midi cables connected.

3) arm an audio track to record.

4) hit play

5) midi should be converting to audio

6) send bass master k money

7) never buy a house using bank of america for a lender

8) good luck
