Learn to use drum maps I guess. =P
I dont do it that much, but from time to time I make midi parts and use them with a LM-9 (I think it's the 9 I've got...) drum VSTi...
What I do is I go to vst instruments and set up the lm, and then I make a midi track, and right click and select the pencil tool to draw a part, and trim it to the length I want.
I set the output of the midi track to the LM...
Then I select the part, and open the drum editor, and use the drumstick tool to set hits where I want them. Keep in mind that making usefull beats can be difficult, and it really helps to know how to play drums, or at least know how drum beats are supposed to work, and the purpose of the parts.
And always, always, make sure the bass line syncs up with the kick drum hits - they reinforce each other, and together provide the rhythmic and chordprogressionmic pulse of the song - an important part of songwriting that often gets overlooked by amateur bands.
