My upgraded home studio is getting pretty dialed in. But I'm finding that I'm a bit stuck in my ways. I've always used plug-ins. Actually, to be honest I used to send tracks dry from my recording software to another program like Sound Forge for effects and bring it back into the multitrack program. Since that time I've upgraded to Cubase (3) and am using plug ins. I do most everything in the box. I'm actually realizing how un-knowledgable I am in making connections in the hardware world.
My current setup: Mic Preamps direct into LynxTwo interface. So far, all effects are plug-ins.
I like the flexibility I get out of plugs, but I'm not amazed by any reverbs. I've tried most all of the best. So now I'm looking into some hardware units like the Lexicon PCM series, Kurzweil Rumour, etc. I'm open to nice sounding older units like the Klark & Teknik DN780 for example. I have about $1000 set aside for reverb right now. I'm working on recording myself, so I don't need a ton of versatility. This will primarily be a vocal reverb..
So here's the question.. What's the best way to set up the hardware with my interface? I know there are several options, but this is pretty new to me. I can run ins and outs from the Lynx to the verb. But what is the most versatile way of setting this up in the DAW? I know you can set up a bus and all of that, but honestly that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I'm pretty new to Cubase, and I haven't done this yet. So if you could speak to me as if you were explaining this to a child that would be nice.
I record at 96k if that matters; I know the Kurzweil units do digital, but are limited to 48k or so..
Thanks!
