Please Help Newbie

Ok, here is my propused scenario for starting homerecording. I will have either Homestudio 2002 or the XL version, an audiophile soundcard. I have nice headphones, and i will have some decent mics (i won't be recording midi). Here is my questoin, what else do i need. I think i need a mixer. Please inform me, also, about the mixer, if anyone has cheap suggestions for mixers (with mic inputs). thanks
 
Hold off on the mixer. You should be able to do all your mixing using the software you own. It will take some getting used to but it should work. The only problem will be with the mic pre's. Decide how much you are willing to spend and that will dictate whether you need a mixer or just a good mic pre-amp to route into your soundcard.
