Greetings music lovers! I am about to embark upon the world of digital audio. I am a lover of music who has decided to get involved in producing/mixing down beats myself! I would be very grateful on some advice about which direction to go in terms of equipment needed. I have around 1500 pounds to spend (approx $2,450)and the type of music I am into is Drum&Bass, Dub (Reggae). I have been advised to start off with atari 1040 cubase + module + sampler then progress from there? Please I would be most grateful if anyone can enlighten me on the options open for the best equipment for this amount of money and to produce the beats that are found in the aforementioned music. Thanking you in advance!

Hello seven X's two & clash. [sounds like a character on Star Trek]

If you are just starting out in the delight of home recording/studio, you should make the rounds and check out various set-ups. For your stated budget, you can get started quite nicely. BUT, HOW LONG DO YOU WANT THE LEARNING CURVE TO BE?

Some types of equipment, most of it really, comes with manuals written by some Gargoyle buried deep within the earth where there is little if no light lixiviating through the dust and mist and mites. Hence, if you can scope out some set-ups and/or visit dealers and get more than the 2 minute demo, this will help you decide.

Here in the Colonies, our junior colleges offer electronic music classes in sequencing, etc. So, before you drop your pounds on the table, investigate, circulate, and lixiviate all possible information.

I hope you're prepared for a long list of opinions on this subject. There are so many ways to get excellent recordings from so many types of equipment, it'll drive you crazy! You're have a decent amount of money to spend, so that should be very helpful. I have a Korg D8 (digital 8-track recorder), a Phillips CDR880 (re-writable CD recorder), a Line6 "POD" (digital guitar~amp simulator w/effects), an AKG C3000 condenser mic, a Shure SM57 and a SM58 and a wall full of guitars, basses, a casio WK1300 keyboard, and an 8 piece drum kit. Total price for the 8-track, CDR, POD, and mics was about $1,800.00 (American) I added a jaz drive for 200 dollars more. $2,000.00 total. The results I've had so far are quite excellent. Pro-quality all the way. But, this is just one way to go. There's lots of other great units out there. Good Luck!
