How do I convert my midi files to wav? I know midi is just data but lets say Im done with editing got my sound in the right place in my sequencer like cakewalk and im ready to mix it down to audio like wav or mp3 what program do I need or what do I need to do or is there no such thing Or the only way I can get audio is to just record it strait from the equipment. I was wondering is midi use for just data only and theres no way to mix it to audio? Lets just say whats the best way to get my midi files to wav? Can someone please explain to me cause I got a headache I know what im asking might be confusing cause im confused myself.

Depending on your soundcard, you can record the onboard synths to wav or mp3.

I understand that the Soundblaster Live! (for example) has a decent synth chip in it.

If you want to take advantage of your outboard gear (synth modules and the like), you'll need to get the audio output from the device into your computer. If you're lucky enough to have optical or S/PDIF outputs on your synth and a mate on your soundcard, you're sitting pretty.

Otherwise, you'll have to send the line out from your gear to the line in of your soundcard (or breakout box).

If the MIDI sequence is on your PC, you'll have to send the output from your computer to the input of your synth. Then you send the audio (or digital audio) output of your synth back into the soundcard or breakout box or whatever you use to get audio into your computer.

Simple enough?;)
