Please Help Me With My Microphone Problems

I am putting together a little budget home recording studio. I recently, have purchased a Studio Projects B1 Condenser Mic and a USB Microphone Mic Link Cable Adapter from ebay so I could connect it to my computer. Now here is the problem. When I plug the adapter into the computer it gets detected as a speaker and not a microphone. It's a really weird problem. If anyone could possible give me a solution or inform me on what the problem may be. I would greatly appreciate it.
 
Broadly speaking those usb mic cable jobbys aren't gonna be of a high standard. That said, it should work.
Can you provide a link to the exact model, or give the proper name and model number please?
 
I bought it from ebay (The site won't let me use hyperlinks because I'm new) I don't believe it has a specific name though. "USB Microphone Mic Link Cable Adapter to XLR Female 3M" is the title.
 
Hmm.
Can't really give much advice.
All you can do is plug the thing in and let windows install it, then go to your system audio panel and select it for use.
Speak into the mic and see if the audio meters move in the windows panel.

What DAW are you using? Does it recognise the device as an input source?
For stable operation, it's usually better to use one device for inputs and outputs. In your setup you'd be using the USB thing for input and built in sound for output so maybe it'd be better to just look for a simple USB audio interface with the bells and whistles?

Asides from these issues, I'd be surprised if a USB adapter device like that provides phantom power. Do you know?
 
I've been studying up, and I am assuming it is something to do with phantom power. Anyways, I think I'm going to buy an M-Audio Audio Buddy Preamp. Do you think that will help out my problem?
 
I wouldn't. An all-in-one interface would be better.
A preamp is just one of the components in an audio interface.

Maybe take a look at the tascam us*** models or something like that?

I agree, depending on how may channels you need, Presonus, Tascam, Focusrite, all make decent interfaces for the money. They serve many on here well.
 
Okay, I'm looking at a Tascam US-322. Any thoughts?
 
Thanks a lot for directing me towards specific brands. I'm currently looking at a Tascam US-322 Audio Interface. Do you think that will get the job done?
 
As long as you're sure you won't need more than two simultaneous mic preamps, that should be fine. :)

Just have a quick google to make sure there are drivers for your operating system.
 
Well, looks like this is just what I need. Thanks a lot for your help as well as everyone else. I'm gonna go order this and my mic should hopefully should be up and running within 5-10 business days! :guitar:
