Don't laugh, but I've never used equip. racks before... I've gathered quite a bit of equipment now & I really have no other alternative anymore.
I just bought a 12-space rack. In which order should I rack this stuff?? Here's the stuff I want to rack:
TASCAM MX-2424 Hard disk recorder (4 spaces?)
dbx386 mic pre (1 space)
Marantz CD burner (2 spaces?)
ART effects processor (1 space)
TC Finalizer (1 space)
I also have a couple 1/2 space items too. A blue tube mic pre and another effect unit. Any tips for those?

I'd like to put my recorder at the top of the rack if possible. I'm concerned with overheating anything, etc. Any tips or recommendations are very much appreciated. Thanks!

Bring your equipment over to my house and leave it for
a few years and I'll hook it up for you!
Generally you want to have at least 3-4" of space between your Tascamm and other racked devices to allow for heat disappation while allowing 1-2" between your other gear also. Allowing space between your recked gear also provides less ground hum and noises interacting with each other.

I have nothing against Art, mind you, but it kinda looks out of place on my wish list, I mean - 'em - your gear list, peeler.

Thanks!

Thanks for the offer to hook it up for me. Do you do house calls? :D Actually, you gave me some great info, so I can hopefully do it myself now. Thanks, I really appreciate your help!

How right you are... That was one of the 1st pieces of gear I ever bought. I used it for years with my TASCAM 424 mkII 4-track. My very next investment will probably be a TC or Lexicon effects unit w/ a little higher resolution. Right now I get by pretty well w/ the internal effects in my digital mixers.

Truth be told peeler,
I use the Art 341 graphic, taint to shabby . . .
