Hi,
My wife owes me a valentines day present and I was going to have her get me a set of speakers for my pc so I can mix and master the songs I am working on appropriately. Right now I only have some shitty speakers that came with the pc and no subwoofer. My tracks contain guitar (acoustic and electric), vocal, bass, drums and keyboard. I am looking for something ideal for what I will be using them for and I need them to be under $100, preferably in the $80 range. THANKS!

Honestly on that budget I don't think you're going to get the improvement you're looking for.. I think the best advice to give here is don't waste your $80.. put it back and save up until you can get at least in the $500-$600 range for some decent studio monitors.. A sub is nice, but not crucial for mixing.. most people turn it off while they're mixing.. and turn it on when the want to impress the client. Take a look at some EVENT monitors.. great for the price. Since a sub may not fit your budget.. I would look at some 8" monitors for increased low end mixing capability to have a nice balance.

Check ebay or craig's list.. you might get some good used monitors for around your price range.

$100 PC speakers...?

For listening, not even on the right planet.

For mixing, not even in the same solar system.

For mastering, not even in the same galaxy.

I'm with Mr. R. Don't even bother until you can get something even sort of reasonable.

$100 can get you 8 or 9 OC703 panels and some fabric to cover them. This will go a long way towrds getting a better sound. You're going to need it anyways when you get a decent set of speakers. You're monitors and listening environment is the biggest abng for the buck to getting a good sound.

Check out the Studio Build forum for more info on OC703 and how to make panels.
