Hi guys,

I want to switch to PTLE and I am considering (really really close to getting the Mbox 2 mini).

Here are my concerns:
1) I have a 1.8GHz; Pentium4; 1GB RAM; my chipset is is compatible. I am afraid I might not be able to run PTLE 7.0 or higher with it. - Have any of you used PTLE (any version) with a 1.8 or lower processor? Or even the MBox 1?
2) I will not be able to use my VST plugings or VSTi's without the wrapper which is $100
3) I hear that the Mbox Mini's converters are not as good as Presonus - Any insight on this would be great.

Thanks!

I've run Pro Tools on a P4 2G w/ 1G a ram without any trouble. With a 002 and an Mbox 1. The VST wrapper wasn't out then so I can't say if it works, but it works with the RTAS standard so there is no reason it shouldn't.

I was running Pro Tools 5.x - can't remember which. 7.0 and above do take more resources so your 1.8 is probably going to be pretty heavily loaded. My *guess* is that it'll run fine, but you won't get many plugs to run at the same time. Possibly not more than 20 tracks, too. Can't say for sure.

There are ways to work in that environment, though, so there's no reason to NOT do it just because the machine is dated.

What are you switching from and how is it doing for you?

i ran a 1.6gig Intel Centrino with 512mb RAM laptop and i found 7.0 to be MUCH faster than the 6.8 i was previously running. I also found it ran Tools pretty darn well considering the power (or lack thereof!).

can't really comment on the pres, if they're the same as the mbox2 then they're nothing to write home about, but they ain't rubbish either..

I am using the M-Audio MobilePre (16bit) right now. Not much trouble with Cubase, only when I over load it with VSTi's and PLug Ins but can still run well when I increase the latency on playback (not record).

It sounds like it would not be too bad, but I'd like to have at least 7 tracks with 2 or more plugins each...

that shouldn't be a problem at all.
