Please help me with the preliminary mixing and recording of this deal. I probably shouldn't have done a quick master on it, but I just wanted to see how it may end up. I compressed the hell out of it, but didn't EQ it (but I will later during the real mastering process).

I guess you'd just call it light rock? I don't know, I used to be staight up metal, but got kind of burnt out on playing with full on distortion and double bass, so now I do a bluesy jazz-rock thing.

I'm almost at the point where I feel like what I was going for wasn't really achieved. I wanted mellow/vintage sounding guitars with a 1970s sort of groove, but the rhythm guitars just sound weak to me. I dig the spotty solos, but I CAN'T STAND the main solo (please agree with that so I can erase it and do another one). Sticks out like a sore thumb, and seems out of place. Oh well, any comments would be good. I chose to do a solo with no backing guitars, just bass and drums. Maybe that's messing things up.

This of course, is pre-vocals...they'll come once I can nail down the musak.

I sort of "locked in" the drums due to how the drum program gets to be a WAV file during mixdown of them, so I hope there's not too many fixing that needs done on the drums, but if you think there is let me know. I know, the hand drum part is weird during the midde, but so am I dangit.

Good guitar playing! My only suggestions would be to cut back the reverb in the solo at 1:45, and do a little more of the 2 guitar lead that there's a little of there. Maybe a little less compression overall too.

Sounds good.

And you’re right, playing with trolls is a waste of time whether one’s angry or funny.

Be careful Tim,I am monitoring your behavior here.
If you continue to refer to myself as a"troll",well,we are gonna butt heads.
Keep your mouth shut and I won't have to correct you at every turn.
For being such a waste of time,Tim,you sure do respond to alot of my threads....softy.

Ted, did I just read that you called yourself a 'butt head'? You should really work on your self-esteem issues. I wish you luck in that pursuit.

Thanks for the comments, Tim. Perhaps I will keep the main solo, but after calming down on the reverb during the beginning. I'll also have to spend a lot more time during the real mastering process - the compression is overkill in many areas...

Nice, clean sounds. Everything seems to have a place to sit in the mix. Very clean!!! Can't wait to hear it as a finished song. If you can, post it at a higher bitrate, as there is enough sound in this tune that the MP3 conversion has some artifacts already, and with vocals, it might not sound good at 128K....
Cool tune.

good point on the bit rate! Also, I just realized tonight the main solo was in totally the wrong key. That's why is sounds so odd. I transposed the bass riff wrong to my guitar. I moved to another position with the same pattern, and booya - much better. I'll post the final deal with your suggestions down the road. Thank you.

man, i don't remember reading something that stupid in quite awhile...

anyway,
GreenDank, I like your playing here. That riff is cool. When you add the high part on the riff too, nice.
The mix sounds very good on my system.
Cool song :D the song reminded me of joe satriani for some reason

Thanks dudes.

For anyone that cares, here's the new solo, song unmastered, levels not really fine tuned. I just had to change it....
