but as you guessed it, I'm a little new at this, and rather than understand all the huzzabuzz on the writeup for the delta 44 soundcard, what I want to know is this, can it record two tracks at once? Does a computer have this processing power? Or does it just route it into one track?
I'm sorry if this sounds really stupid, but I can use the multitrack programs just fine using my one input soundcard....

As long as your software supports is (most do) and your computer is fast enough (most will be), you can record up to 4 separate audio sources to individual tracks using the Delta 44. Your stock soundcard probably has only one 1/8" stereo jack, which means, at most, you could record one stereo signal or two mono signals (with the appropriate cable).
