For some reason Mp3.com won't let you link to them....

The name of the audio file is In the Rat Cavern it is the 2nd song on the site at:

http://mp3.com/chopshop

Thanks again..

Too many nice beats out there! Sounds good, one question----how come mp3.com won't let me listen to a whole track? Once the download gets close to 100%, it cuts off. Unless you can download the track, it won't let me hear the whole deal.

I never had that problem but.. MP3 is real funny right now so im not surprised...

Thanks for the time and the props kid...

Raticus

Any others???

Hmmm... sorry... sounds a lot like wanking on a keyboard....

You need to work on both arrangement and timing!

Bruce

No malice intended.... that's my honest opinion upon hearing his clip!

Anyone who sticks around here long knows I call 'em as I see 'em.... call it constructive criticism....

As Harvey Gerst once said - "Which would you choose - someone with a 50/50 smattering of knowledge and very polite, or 97% accuracy and blunt?"

Bruce

Raticus, no offence my friend, but it does sound like dis-associated snips of audio randomly pasted together. I couldn't listen for long before it was just plain disturbing. It needs something to bind it all together.

Raticus...

... I'm sorry but I must agree with Blue Bear Sound and Trackrat.

Try making changes in the beats. Stopping the drum for 16 notes, then restarting the hihat, then the kick, then the snare.

You should listen to Mr.Sol's beats. It could give you some ideas.

Peace,
Beathoven

(P.S.: BTW, what equipments are you using to make your beats?)

I like the cut up sound, gives it a nice underground sound. Specially on the Struggly Dred track. The paticular track your asking about, wasn't my favourite off your site, but I still think it sounds good(the part that I can listen to anyway). Is that your scratching?

Wow tuff crowd...

But I a heard it all from the praises to the complaints....

I will agree there are some traks up there that aren't great but I was asked for your opinions on the 2nd track on the site called 'In the Rat Cavern' it is a blend of about five beats....

I currently use
Studio Vision 3.5
Akai S2000
Akai s2800
Jv1010

Nuendo
Echo Layla

Thanks guys for taking the time and voicing your opinions....

Curious

What genre of music do you guys like up here?
My beats are geared towards the underground Hip Hop market.....

Mr. Sol tracks to me are more of a commericial sound....
(no disrespect) He should do very well....

My request was strictly geared towards the second song on the site everything else up there for the most part was put up 2 years ago and at the time they were getting fair amount of play....

I just put up In the Rat Cavern to get a gauge of what I sounding like to the public.... If you comments where pointed to that track I thank you for you time and comments if not please go listen to the second track for me and give me you opinions...

Cwadroon thanks for the props and time.... The scratch on struggly dred is a sample The other one is real....

Beethoven thanks for the advice it sounds like to me you are asking me to add drops to my beats, I don't thinkl you listened to the second track on the site because they have what you described...

Blue Bear and Trak Rat if you comments were pointed to the second track then thank you for your opinions and time if not check out # 2 and let me know.......

Thanks again

Raticus

I listened to the clip you asked about.... Rat Cavern...

Bruce

I will respect your opinion as just that....

Although you being a sound engineer and all I was curious on most of your clients genre of musik.... I also engineer parttime at a pretty well known studio in NYC... This studio basically focuses on the Independent Hip Hop Market... I can sell my beats out of there consistently..

Of course not every trak is appealing to everyone but I try to mix it up so everyone can have a flavor......

Thanks again for you time..

Raticus

While it's true most of my clients are not hip-hop... my criticism stems from the timing and arrangement issues... radnomness is fine, but disjointed, off-time segments are really hard to listen to...

I love dissonant and funky stuff, when it's done well - it works... but there's a fine line....

Hey - don't sweat it - just out opinions! All that really counts is that you like it (unless you're trying to sell it!), then you need to worry about others liking it! ;)

Cheers,

Bruce

No doubt Bear.....
Glad I could get your opinion as you are well respected here and I will take into account what you have said.......

One thing I you have to realise is you can't please everyone.....

Be good...

aiyo Raticus,

Listen bro you are gonna get alot of opinions up in here from alot of different musical perspectives........thats why I love this board.....

anyway I peeped the track........

I here ya about commercial vs Underground sound.....

I've been in the underground hip hop scene too fuckin long and its time for me to make the $$$, ( so I sold out and went commercial) but your sound is perfect for the underground.....battlin-freestylin---or just showin off lyrical style and flow.....I agree its not mainstream but thats not your intention...so as far as underground sound goes that track fits right in to the scene....I am sure if you wanted to make mainstream beats you could just by hearing the mixes you put in there..........

The problem (and don't all you get mad at me either) with other genre's critiqing hip hop is they only here the talent in the mainstream market ----- but everyone in the scene knows all the talent is in the underground scene......Not hard y'all to make mainstream music its just samplin what others have already done and/or looping 4-5 sounds for 4 minutes....really not as creative as what raticus put together....so I felt it bro

Just to let you know my fellow Rat friend, I had listened to the second cut as you requested. As you know it's a matter of taste so don't be discouraged. In any music genre' there is an underground section and I agree that's where the cutting edge is.
I admit I'm not a hip hop fan (just listen to some of the stuff I've had my hands in) so my opinion on the style shoudn't carry as much weight as some of the folks here that are in to it. Boogie on.
