Well - let's see - this isn't my style so I'll break down my thoughts one by one amd you can take them with a ton of salt.

Guitars sound nice - ballsy tone - tons of energy - very w-i-d-e-l-y spread so the middle of the soundscape is mostly the drums

The drums really disturb me - if you're going for an added or subtracted beat during the fills it's getting lost - it just comes out arhytmic- in other words I can't count through it. Is it a different meter?

But I like the energy - a lot! I need to hear it with lyrics so I can tell what meter you're in.

Keep at it - good start - sounds like there's a good feel in the studio based on the 'yeaaah' at the end!! Have fun, man!

Ok for a NOFX rip off.

I can even sing "Jeff don't wear regular shoes" to it with no trouble.

Sounds bitching!
I think the spread's too wide on the toms. The rhythym section was awesome. The guitars sound direct in but sound good.

Needs vocals :)

jake - its not my song jus so u kno...so yea, i had nothing to do with the nofx thing haha.

doug h - the guitars weren't direct..they were mic'd

mc gitarz - what u mean you cant count thru it? n the yea was how he finally got the solo down good ha.

thanks for the comments guys!

any other opinions?

and can u guys tell how i cheated with the guitars?

nice

I like the song alot.....The only thing that didn't fit well was the little bass solo at 1:09. Tell your bass guy to go crazy right there...thats his time to shine cause the mix is so good u can hardly hear him. But other than that I think it sounds great.

(put some vocals in too)

dumass,

I could only echo the comments about figuring out the meter of the song, not that, that is life or death or anything. I guess it's a way of saying you guys played it a bit too loose. Speed metal demands atomic clock synronicity from all the players so that those who choose to hand bang along with it don't pinch a nerve in the process.

I liked the spirit of the tune. It had a happy and positive vibe to it which is refreshing compared to some stuff out there that wants to impress the emotions of doom and disaster.

Write some comical or happy lyrics to it and you will have something there to play to your grand kids one day and say, look what gramps kicked out, back in the day.

Cheers! :)

uhh yea...ha its not my song man, its the band im recording

but yea, so what u think of the mix tho?

Too much compression. I hear pumping on the kick, although it could over use of two buss compression. It's even distorting a bit. Now a little distortion can be a good thing, making a more aggressive (read LOUD) sound but there's something wrong here.

yea, what i did was have 2 different compressors on the bass drum , and then i sent the toms, snare, n bass drum to an aux where it went thru another compressor..

so how would i fix this..? wat should i kick back on?

Nice drummer, especially compared to the other musicians. Not that everyone else is bad... he/she's just better.

I heard many timing problems. My only real negative comment. The mix was mostly okay on my system, it was just too loose, and there were a few harsh spots in the the guitars. Really good sound, on the whole, though. Nicely recorded drums. They (meaning the band) just need to tighten up.

Your judicious use of compressing diffent submixes has really got me interested here. Downloading.

yea i feel that it brought a whole bunch of life to the drums

Most of the time people have too much mud in their recordings on stuff like this.

You don't have enough!:D

That is to say it seems like there's no low-mids/upper bass in this. The bass & drums have no body.

yea i feel that it brought a whole bunch of life to the drums

Or sucked a bunch out.

and as u can tell i cheated the guitars a little bit.

By this do you mean you mean you copy+pasted parts? Shame on you!:D

Heh, NOFX uses the same exact drum beat in every song. Gets old. I don't care for the guitar tones, the bass works...The drums sound pretty good, what's your drum micing setup?

Good song man, lots of energy.

Like Piltdown Man says this sort of thing needs the guitars to be spot on with drums timing wise. It seemed the rythym guit lagged a bit at times, at other times the drums up tempod a bit.

The bass drum got lost somewhere along the way. That happens to me constantly so if you find it let me know. Otherwise the drums do sound good. If it was me I'd pan the toms from the centre to the right instead of all the way from the left to the right but that's a minor quibble.

I like the lead break towards the end, nice and melodic, and the guitar tones sound great. Couldn't figure out how you cheated on them. All up very nice mix

well the only way i "cheated" was copy a gutiar track, paste it on another, and move it over a tinyyyy bit, to give it a fuller, more stereo sound.

as for the drums...
akg d112
3 shure sm57's (rack, floor, and snare top)
rode nt-1a (bottom snare)
2 oktava mk012

You... you DUMASS! :D (sorry... but picking that name was... smart of
you ;))

Drums sound pretty killer here... nice bass! The kick drum is taking quite a bit
of space... should probably come back 2db... and push the bass fader up a bit...
you may have to work out an arr. between kick/bass so they share 80-120Hz a bit
better.

This sounds like that Blink182 type arrangement...

IMO there's a bit too much 'verb on your rhythm gtrs... and if you plan to
mix vocs into this, the comments are all moot... since you should start the
mix from scratch at that point ... starting (usually) w/drums/bass/vocs...

Nice performance. Good tracks to work with. At this point, IMO, it's just a
matter of mix... (there ARE a few hiss issues... heard at the end...)

i didnt put any reverb on the rhythm guitars...thanks tho

maybe its the delay i did?
