i was just wondering many times a week or month most of you play shows. also, what is your favorite type of show to play? party's, clubs, coffe houses, fests...etc. do you ever tour? just curious

I play over 300 dates a year and it has absoutely nothing to do with songwriting.

Yo Studge,

300 Gigs per year. That means you gig nearly every day. I've told you 45 million times not to exaggerate. =)

I'm counting double shifts. Next day off = Feb 3rd, hey, isn't that the super bowl?

:D

I play about once a month...
I want to play more, but don't even get at rehearsing most of the time. With my cabaret-kinda band, we do a few shows after about each 4 rehearsals. We're at 1 after over 8 months not gigging. Sigh...

I wish it wern't 300 dates a year and more like 150. The resort I play at just got a new GM so I may get my wish.

I don't play out at all, though an old college band mate and I are in the process of getting an act together. We'll see how that turns out. :) Actually, I play quite a bit at camp staff renunions and stuff like that, but most folks don't call that "playing out."

I occasionally (6 times a year) play some songs at some of the adult classes I help run and get a very enthusiatic response- probably could have sold over 100 CD's last year if I'd had them done and with me. Oh, well. They are still using one of my songs as part of the class, so maybe I can sell a few even though I'm not there anymore.

Well, I agree with you Studge... in a way. Sure, it has nothing to do with songwriting... but it's kinda interesting to get a feel for how many gigs the songwriters do, don't ya think? For that reason, I thought the question was interesting in this area...

I don't play out much anymore (caved in and got a "real" job in 98) but looking back at the logs, I did 1240 paid live gigs between 1993 and 1998. It was a great bunch of years - but it was 95% cover tunes or backing up other artists... and the 5% original paid the worst and were the least attended, I'm sorry to say... :(

I guess my point is, that while I don't play many gigs nowadays, I however write a heap more songs nowadays than I did then... I guess since I'm not burning up that energy & enthusiasm playing gigs... and in that perspective, I'm kind of interested to hear how much the songwriters here perform live - would also like to know what percentage of those gigs are a) cover gigs b) backup gigs c) performing original material...

I'm in an original modern rock band that gigs about 4-7 times a month. I play solo shows of my own material about 2-4 times a month.
