Playing live or recording ?

While I enjoy doing both, there's a rush that comes from mixing live that isn't there in the studio...and my mistakes don't haunt me for months like trying to pull a mix out of a crap recording does!

I love recording and kinda have a distaste for playing live. Haven't done it in 2 years because it's just a struggle finding people my age who are good musicians AND are reliable AND like the same style of music as me. Actually it's kinda impossible. And playing live solo is no fun for me.
 
I started playing live when I was about 16, and continued from then on until about the turn of the century. I never thought I would not want to go out and perform, but around about that time, illness beset one of the band members and we had to cancel a few gigs. I suddenly found myself enjoying not having to go out.

I had always been interested in recording, but it had been a sideline while playing live. In the mid-nineties I started doing more recording, and discovered, a few years later, that having people come to me and pay me to do stuff was way better than me having to go to them.

So now, in 2014, I prefer recording to performing live. I still do the occasional gig, which is always enjoyable, but the urge to be in the public eye vanished long ago.
 
I love playing live but I admit it's starting to fade. I just did a gig new years eve and got home at 4:45AM. It was a great show but loading and unloading gear in the cold early morning hours is losing it's glamorous appeal. I prefer recording now but it's hard to break old habits.
