I played my first LP in the shop today - they're ordering me in a LP studio but they're not sure how long it'll take just yet. Meanwhile theygave me a Standard to try out - I know they're of better quality, but it gave me a feel for a Les Paul neck. And man, it feels different! Different to a Fender neck I mean. Still great sounds, I guess it'll just take a while to get used to it.

Besides, I always freak out playing in a music shop! Played it through a Hot Rod Deluxe which also sounded amazing.

yeah, man the Gibson neck is quite a feel compared to a fender/squier. Although I once played a squier that felt like an LP neck, it was set in the body and everything.

What colour will your new LP be?

Yeah I thought I'd be more conscious of the shorter scale than the neck shape, maybe it was the combination of the two that threw me!

Congratulations on the new member of your family.

I've discovered that Gibsons are the instruments that feel and sound good to me. My two electrics at the moment are the '70 Les Paul Deluxe and a recent blond Epi Sheraton II, which is based on Epiphone's take on the ES-335. I have the misfortune to have a friend who has a late '60s Gibson ES-340, and it puts little Epi to shame, sound-wise.

I've been through everything from no-names to Gretsch to Rickenbacker, and none of them ever worked or looked like my LP. And the sound is perfect for me.

On the other hand, I just never got along with Fender guitars. I had a Strat for a few years, and did some recording with (it sounded really good, by the way) but it never felt right in my hands, and I'm not sure why.

And on the third hand, I play exclusively Fender basses (recently traded off a fretless Jazz, and right now I have fretted and fretless Precisions) for the same reason I like Gibson guitars: they work the best.

A good LP (and they all vary -- I've played many over the years) is a life companion.

Les Paul is hard to beat.

Only a Carvin comes close.
