playback pauses and crackleing

i'm recording audio tracks with pro audio 9. i'm mic'ing the guitar with an mxl 990 and then coming back and doing vocals and other guitar parts on other tracks. i only have the one microphone. i haven't started midi yet.its a new mic and i haven't had any problems until tonite. i'm using a tascam us-122 interface. when i playback the first track there's intermittent crackleing in the track and dead spots every now and then. its not the headphones because i tried another set and it still did it. i haven't changed anything in the set up i can think of so i don't know whats going on. any ideas?

check your output soundcard.

You have a latency issue. You need to go thru your setup and check to make sure that you are using the correct drivers. Check the latency setttings. You may have to increase this a tad to eliminate dropouts or crackles.
