Hi. So I'm putting together my first studio this month. It's going to be pretty meager for now. I've been doing some reading in this forum and I think I've decided on my setup. I am recording with a laptop and I already have a some mics and software. How does this plan sound?

- Firepod interface($600)
- Mics: 1 Studio Projects SP1, 3 SM57's
- M-Audio DX4 Monitors ($150)
- Protools software

I will be recording in a room in my basement which is already fairly sound proofed. With the door closed you can't hear very much going on in the room. So I don't think I'll need to worry about that.

What do you all think, do I need anything else right now? I'd like to keep the price under $1000 if possible. I guess I'm at around $750 right now and I still need to get some cables. If I absolutely need to get something else I might be able to spend a little more.

Any suggestions would be great,
Thanks.

You'll need a Protools compatible interface, the Firepod will not work with PT.

You could go with Cubase though, it's limited version ships with the Firepod.

Ugh, that stinks. I haven't tried Cubbase, I also have cakewalk, will that work?

if you learn one software good, you've learned all softwares.
