Looking to buy some cymbals for my kit and was wondering if the planet z cymbals by Zildjan are quality as the price is considerably cheaper. Does anybody have any experience with these?

Well, I have played Sabian Solar cymbals by Sabian, and they suck. So I'm GUESSING (but I'm not sure) that if it says that a cymbal company is BY a famous brand, it sucks... i dunno though, never played with Planet Z. Also, if you decide against Planet Z, I suggest something Paiste... I don't know about their beginner (802, 402, 302, 502, 101, 201, PST3, PST5, and Alpha)series, but their pro cymbals (signature, 2002) are AMAZING. Beats Zildjian and Sabian any day... thats just my opinion. Ask someone with more experience...

Generally speaking, Zildjians are of very good quality.
I've played on Z customs and ZBTs and they both sound pretty good.
However, cymbals vary from one to the next, even if they're the same exact model. It's all about trying them before buying.

In my experience, cymbals cast in a mold will sound much better than cheaper cymbals, which are often stamped out from a large sheet of metal. Yuck.

I've been playing Zildjians all my life - they make awesome stuff, but Planet Z sounds like an entry level cymbal and probably stamped from a sheet. Yuck. A friend bought a ZBT pack and they were awful.

The best sounds I've heard at entry-level prices are the Sabian XS series, which are inexpensive but are still cast in a mold. I've put every cymbal in the store up on stands and listened to each one to arrive at that conclusion - I suggest you do the same if you can.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll check out those Sabians before I make any decisions.

If you're looking for fairly priced cymbals, try Wuhans. I've heard nothing but good things about their cymbals and actually own a few cymbals by them. I would definitely recommend their splashes. For the price you can't go wrong!

Just checked them out on ebay. For the price I think its definitely worth checking out.
Thanks for the advice

Awesome! Pics/audio when you get em!

Just bought a wuhan 20" medium/heavy ride off ebay for $40. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'll update when I get it

Nice. I hear a lot of good things about the S Series, but more people I know prefer the traditional series. I just pick up 3 more splashes from them! :)

i'd run away if someone reccomended Planet Z's...dont get em. Unless you want terrible cymbals, thats a big fat NO. I've played em....for beginner cymbals, they're probly the worst :( . Save up longer and go for B8's or B8 Pro's if you don't wanna spend a lot...they sound good even though they're cheap.

save some more money to buy some better cymbals......
Z-planet and solar are just CRAP!!
you may found the lid of your rubbish-bin will sound better than them.
they never sounded like a cymbal.

I'm glad I waited for this thread! Had a feeling those cymbals were too good to be true. I lucked out and found a set of B8 high hats in a pawn shop for $80 in mint condition and I'm still crossing my fingers on the Wuhan ride which should be here any day. I'll post my findings.

Just got my wuhan S series 20" med/heavy ride today. Looks awesome and sounds mint!! $40 bucks on ebay! Thanks for the advice Enrique!
