Im looking for a page where I can hear different mics that have been recorded to see which one I would like to get.

Right now its between an AKG C414 and Neumann 103.

From what ive heard people are telling me more for the AKG.

Also, Ill be recording mainly Acoustic and Vocals. But with time ill be upgrading for full band....

So any help or places I can listen??

Also for a mic my price range is up to abourt 1200 but if a cheaper mic sounds better by all means, quality doesnt have to come with a price tag if it sounds great!!!

I think there are many more using the C414 and you have all those early Journey records with Steve Perry using it...tlm103 had a popular honeymoon...but at that price point without multiple patterns...it isnt near as practical.

The 414 is the mic I would prefer for the acoustic, the Neumann for a vocal mic. Generally, given my choice, I'd take the C414 for it's multiple polar patterns, and multistage pad. Both are rather good mics, and ought to be, for what they cost. I don't think you'll regret buying either one.-Richie

Compared to the C414 uls...the voice quality is about the same...a C214 will be the comparable mic to the Neumann in question.
This being said because of the name the Neumann can hold its value well...while a C414 used goes for arround $400...buy the C414 and get a nice Line6 UX8 modeling preamp with the rest of the money you will save.

No experience with the TLM 103. My use of the various 414's over the years led me to the conclusion that the 414 family of mics can sound great on some sources and bloody awful on others. I adore my TLII on some voices and percussion but have yet to get a good acoustic guitar sound from it. If looking for an "all-around" good mic, I'd suggest you look elsewhere.

Yes...you do have to get the correct C414...there are a few differnt ones...I believe the C214 is also biased for vocals...and would be a good mic to compare to the Neumann since they are both unswitchable.
