Pitch Bend

I know there is many different types of sound shifts i can get with this but, is there a certain way of doing it or do you just have to practice on it till you get the hang of it? Because i heard someone on it and it was like I never heard before.

Perhaps I shouldn't be answering this question because I stink at pitch bend and I've never heard that there was any certain technique to follow. As far as I know it's just practice. Jan Hammer (with Jeff Beck) was always known for his pitch bending. I would listen to recordings of guitar players and try to mimic what they're doing. I've always though that I might get around to practicing it, but I never have.
