My Dad has this plug in volume control dealy for his acousitc. I really don't want to install a permanent volume control on my Martin, so this plug in is perfect. Basically it's the size of a small pick holder and there are two knobs on it and the 1/4 plug, you plug it into your guitar and then plug the cord into the bottom.
So here's the query, does anyone know how to find one of these things, can't seem to locate one, and I desperately want one. I know this isn't a recording question but I've run out of options.

not totally sure what you are talking about, but I suspect it is the difference between having an active pickup or passive pickup in the guitar. If you have a piezo pickup under the bridge, either the preamp/volume/eq controls can be built into the guitar, or you can just install the pickup/plug in the guitar and have the other controls in a separate unit. I have a Fishman transducer that does just that: a passive pickup in the guitar, with an external device to control volume etc. Without the transducer, my acoustic doesn't supply any juice (no batteries or anything on board), if I plug into a mixer or amp, nada, nothing, no signal, but if I plug into the transducer and then into the board, there is a signal that I can control the volume and eq. Some are even fancier.

I have an IBeam Active, which does have a its own preamp. The battery installs inside the guitar, basically I just need the volume control, cause like i said, I have an active pickup. The only difference between that fishman and what I want, besides the preamp issue, is the size and the way it mounts. This one is really small and just includes a volume and tone control, all passive, and they plug in to the back of the guitar almost unoticed.

well, in that case, I haven't got the foggiest idea.... good luck

It was made by Martin, called the VTC (volume/tone control). Haven't seen one in years. Sorry :( . A less convenient solution would be a volume pedal.

Hey, I just found this! Same exact thing, almost, except no tone control, which was useless anyway.
