yes
i'm plannin on buying a gibson les paul(not sure which one yet) within the next month. i'm plannin on gettin a bridge pickup that has beautiful cleans, but it must have great distortion without getting too muddy. sometimes drop d, but not too often.

maybe i'm asking too much,

thanks.

the best luck i have had out of pick ups in a les paul are 1. emg 81/85 set up ala zakk wyld. 2. a duncan pearly gates in the bridge and a 59 in the neck.

very interesting. thank you.

anyone else got suggestions to add
to the list?

+1 for that, or try a JB in the bridge and either a 59 or a Jazz in the neck. I think, in terms of the Duncan combinations that come stock in most guitars that use them, those combinations are the most frequently used. And they just sound good. ;)

I replaced the PUPs in my 83 LP with SD Antiquities. My tech changed the caps as well so the tone pot actually works and the volume pot rolls off more smoothly. A major difference in sound and functionality.

Give the original pickups a chance before you pony up for replacements. The original Gibson buckers are actually really good pickups. The stock guitar may be very capable of giving you what you describe.
