Pickup problem with Applause AE28

I have an Applause AE28 guitar, which has a bad hum after sanding on the saddle. I am assuming that the problem is in the pickup because it sounded ok before I attempted to lower the action. Under the saddle there is a thin piece of copper looking metal which appears to have been soldered somewhere to the metal case. Does anyone know if this piece of metal is supposed to be soldered to the hot or ground, or does it just lie across the piezo pickups?

Maybe I would be better of just replacing the pickup? If so, does anyone know where I can buy parts for an Applause guitar? I really want to sell this guitar, because I don’t like the sound of it, as far as recording goes.

Thanks for any suggestions

this may or may not help your problem, but try adding reverb when you record direct with a peizo pickup equipped acoustic
