Hey folks,
lots of good info on relevant posts! I'm planning on getting an Asus P4 P800 w/a 2.4C Pentium for my DAW upgrade. I think I can only afford 512Mb of RAM now, unless someone can show me a really good deal for 1G.

With the dual channel DDR, what would you get? (The bulk of this new system is coming from newegg, so something they have would be best . . .)

Much obliged for any reflections and comments!

If you can afford 1g then get it but you won't be compromised if you're just recording with 512MB.

Have you looked at the Serial ATA drives? They have a performance advantage over the old Ultras

No, i haven't really considered SATA, since at a quick glance those drives looked more pricey. Most of what i've read suggests that normal ATA works fine for most people. I do have the ability to upgrade later with this board though.

Also, when you say 512M, would 2x256 be better than 1x512, so as to take advantage of dual channel? I read someones post eleswhere that said you should use a minimum of 512 sticks for WinXP. True? A good idea but not critical?
