A little update. I went to the store and tried out the Casio Privia 110X, 310X, Yamaha P70, and M-audio Prokeys88.

1. I started on the P70. The key feel was pretty good, but I was a little disapointed by the piano sounds. They were a bit better when I plugged in headphones. Overall, the piano sounded a little muddy. Pretty good still.

2. Then I tested out the casios. I thought these both played and sounded better than the P70. I was really surprised. The other sounds (organs, etc.) weren't the best, but the piano sounded great to my ears.

3. Then I tried out the M-audio. I thought the keys felt horrible. They certainly didn't feel like a piano, but more like heavy synth keys. The piano sound was really tinny to my ears.

That's very close to the opinions I drew when I compared those same keyboards (and a few others) - which I why I ended up buyer a Privia 310.

I just discovered I can get a Kurzweil Mark 10 digital piano for pretty cheap ($400). I know its not portable, but does anyone know how the piano sound on this compares to the ones I discussed above?

I've never tried a Kurz Mark 10 - but I own a Kurz module and have played various Kurz keyboards.

Kurweil is well respected for quality piano sounds - so you should be more than satisfied from a sound standpoint. Regarding feel - well only you can decide that.

Well, I ordered the 310X. I'll post another review after I dick around with it for a while.

Hi all,

I just passed 2 hours to compare a casio PX 110, a korg SP250 & a yamaha P70. From my point of view :

The keyboard action : the three are really good. There is subttle differences but all are really goods.

The sound : The best piano sound in my opinion was on the korg SP 250. The 2 others were a little too bright for me (but the brightness coulld me adjusted a little on the casio). I 've tested it with headphones and not with the inboard speakers which are of no use for me (I have a really good amp).
The casio was for me a little better than the yamaha. The only probkem on the korg was that a sample covering a few keys at high velocity (from Eb5 to Bb5 or something like that) present a small I frequency vibration that is not really nice for me. It's subbtle & will probably not be audible on stage but in the headphones it was here...

The korg had more sound than the other some a quite nice and some are absolutely useless.

IMHO the korg was 1st & the yamaha was last (I planned to buy a p70 but I will change may plans). The casio PX110 can be really cheap (455 euros in europe). The Korg is more expensive but the piano sound is really nice (the pianissiomos are really sweet).

The Yamaha 61 key, PSR 500, Touch Control is the one I use and love it for many reasons. A little older Synth but has it all and sounds perfect in any control. and was only $750 new. (where I got mine from anyway). But the one you chose is also a good one.
