Stay on Topic!

My bad - I just blew away my last post

Anyway, I wanted to list the mods I made to this particular MIM strat (heavy as it may be)....

I now have a Danelectro Lipstick on the bridge position, Lace Gold on the neck, the original SC in the middle, a treble bleed cap (with on/by-pass switch) ala Tele, push/pull volume knob ("on" keeps the neck PU on in all positions), down to one master tone control, GraphTech T's/nut/saddles, extended trem arm, white pearloid pick guard, black trem screws, chrome vol/tone knobs and a black top to the PU selector switch.

So maybe it's not so stock anymore :) And Yes, I'm very happy with it!!!!!!!!!!!

My only future planned change - get rid of the stock middle PU. I have a Kay dual-coil I'm thinking about putting there....

Jam'n for Jesus! Fusion

Just curious

Did you ever throw that MIM on a scale? Just curious because I have an older MIM, probably a 92 and it seems heavy as well. Never actually weighed mine though, perhaps I will tonight. The only mod I made to mine was to install the EMG David Gilmour pickup set. Is yours an older MIM as well?

This thread was about a MIM strat and a weight issue, what does that have to do with Squire pickups? Nothing
I think the paint job also determines what wood Fender uses... also, if the neck is a bolt-on or through the body neck and the pickups used, plus throught the body bridge vs top load bridge, type nut and etc all determines how much satain the axe will have. I don't think just the weight of an axe really determines anything other than maybe how long you can wear it before your shoulder hurts like hell.

PS... what does "MIM" stand for?

There is no way a Strat weighs as much as a LP. I have a couple of early 1980s Ibanez Artists (basically LP copies) which are solid mohagany bodies. Those things weigh about 20lbs each! Man, talk about an aching back! If I play for several hours and forget to take frequent breaks, I will regret it the next day.

You will often see MIM or MIJ, it is short for Made in Mexico or Made in Japan.

8lbs

Finally threw my mexican strat on a scale last night and it is weighing in at 7.5 or 8lbs. That seems heavy to me, I would have thought more like 6lbs. Perhaps the older mexi-strats are heavier, mine is a 1992.

Nine pounds!

Ok, I finally pulled out the bathroom scale and actually weighed just me and then me and the strat.... 9 pounds! (That's plus or minus of course, it only reads in whole numbers).

I wonder what other solid body guitars weigh in at?????
